Chiral de Rham complex introduced by Malikov et al. in 1998, is a sheaf of vertex algebras on any complex analytic manifold or non-singular algebraic variety. Starting from the vertex algebra of global sections of chiral de Rham complex on the upper half plane, we consider the subspace of $\Gamma$-invariant sections that are meromorphic at the cusps. The space is again a vertex operator algebra, with a linear basis consisting of lifting formulas of meromorphic modular forms. ...

The coset $G$-space of a finite group and a subgroup is a fundamental module of study of Schur and others around 1930; for example, its endomorphism algebra is a Hecke algebra of double cosets. We study and review its generalization $Q$ to Hopf subalgebras, especially the tensor powers and similarity as modules over a Hopf algebra, or what's the same, Morita equivalence of the endomorphism algebras. We prove that $Q$ has a nonzero integral if and only if the modular function ...

In this article we define the algebra of differential modular forms and we prove that it is generated by Eisenstein series of weight $2,4$ and 6. We define Hecke operators on them, find some analytic relations between these Eisenstein series and obtain them in a natural way as coefficients of a family of elliptic curves. Then we describe the relation between the dynamics of a foliation in $\C^3$ induced by the Ramanujan relations, with vanishing of elliptic integrals. The fac...

This paper is an exposition of the completion of a modular group with respect to its inclusion into SL_2(Q) and the connection with the theory of modular forms and variations of mixed Hodge structure over modular curves. Among the goals of this paper are to give a context to Manin's iterated Shimura integrals (iterated integrals of modular forms) and to study relations in the "maximal Eisenstein quotient" of the completion of SL_2(Z). In particular, we use a computation of Te...

In this course we introduce the main notions relative to the classical theory of modular forms. A complete treatise in a similar style can be found in the author's book joint with F. Str{\"o}mberg [1].

These course notes are about computing modular forms and some of their arithmetic properties. Their aim is to explain and prove the modular symbols algorithm in as elementary and as explicit terms as possible, and to enable the devoted student to implement it over any ring (such that a sufficient linear algebra theory is available in the chosen computer algebra system). The chosen approach is based on group cohomology and along the way the needed tools from homological algebr...

In this paper, we explore the modular differential equation $\displaystyle y'' + F(z)y = 0$ on the upper half-plane $\mathbb{H}$, where $F$ is a weight 4 modular form for $\Gamma_0(2)$. Our approach centers on solving the associated Schwarzian equation $\displaystyle \{h, z\} = 2F(z)$, where $\{h, z\}$ represents the Schwarzian derivative of a meromorphic function $h$ on $\mathbb{H}$. We derive conditions under which the solutions to this equation are modular functions for su...

We study the space of period polynomials associated with modular forms of integral weight for finite index subgroups of the modular group. For the modular group, this space is endowed with a pairing, corresponding to the Petersson inner product on modular forms via a formula of Haberland, and with an action of Hecke operators, defined algebraically by Zagier. We generalize Haberland's formula to (not necessarily cuspidal) modular forms for finite index subgroups, and we show ...

We associate canonically a cyclic module to any Hopf algebra endowed with a modular pair, consisting of a group-like element and a character, in involution. This provides the key construct allowing to extend cyclic cohomology to Hopf algebras in the non-unimodular case and further to develop a theory of characteristic classes for actions of Hopf algebras compatible not only with traces but also with the modular theory of weights. It applies to ribbon and to coribbon algebras,...

We define Hecke operators on vector-valued modular forms of the type that appear as characters of rational conformal field theories (RCFTs). These operators extend the previously studied Galois symmetry of the modular representation and fusion algebra of RCFTs to a relation between RCFT characters. We apply our results to derive a number of relations between characters of known RCFTs with different central charges and also explore the relation between Hecke operators and RCFT...
