The Midwest Geometry Conference 2007 was devoted to the substantial mathematical legacy of Thomas P. Branson who passed away unexpectedly the previous year. This contribution to the Proceedings briefly introduces this legacy. We also take the opportunity of recording his bibliography. Thomas Branson was on the Editorial Board of SIGMA and we are pleased that SIGMA is able to publish the Proceedings.

This document consists of the collection of handouts for a two-week summer workshop entitled 'Geometry and the Imagination', led by John Conway, Peter Doyle, Jane Gilman and Bill Thurston at the Geometry Center in Minneapolis, June 17-28, 1991. The workshop was based on a course `Geometry and the Imagination' which we had taught twice before at Princeton.

This survey presents an overview of the advances around Tverberg's theorem, focusing on the last two decades. We discuss the topological, linear-algebraic, and combinatorial aspects of Tverberg's theorem and its applications. The survey contains several open problems and conjectures.

The present volume is the written version of the series of lectures the author delivered at the Catholic University of Leuven, Belgium during the period of June-July, 1990. The main purpose of these talks is to present some of author's work and also his joint works with Professor T. Nagano and Professor Y. Tazawa of Japan, Professor P. F. Leung of Singapore and Professor J. M. Morvan of France on geometry of slant submanifolds and its related subjects in a systematical way.
