Braid groups are an important and flexible tool used in several areas of science, such as Knot Theory (Alexander's theorem), Mathematical Physics (Yang-Baxter's equation) and Algebraic Geometry (monodromy invariants). In this note we will focus on their algebraic-geometric aspects, explaining how the representation theory of higher genus braid groups can be used to produce interesting examples of projective surfaces defined over the field of complex numbers.

The Kontsevich integral $Z$ associates to each braid $b$ (or more generally knot $k$) invariants $Z_i(b)$ lying in finite dimensional vector spaces, for $i = 0, 1, 2, ...$. These values are not yet known, except in special cases. The inverse problem is that of determining $b$ from its invariants $Z_i(b)$. In this paper we study the case of braids on two strands, which is already sufficient to produce interesting and unexpected mathematics. In particular, we find connections...

In this paper, we study the irreducible representations of skew braces of order \( pq \), which is equivalent to studying the representation theory of groups of order \( p^2q^2 \) arising from skew left braces, where \( p > q \) are primes. To achieve this, we classify all semidirect product groups \( \Lambda_A \) associated with skew left braces $A$ of order \( pq \), up to isomorphism.

In this expository paper we review some recent results about representations of Kac-Moody groups. We sketch the construction of these groups. If practical, we present the ideas behind the proofs of theorems. At the end we pose open questions.

This is a survey paper about affine Hecke algebras. We start from scratch and discuss some algebraic aspects of their representation theory, referring to the literature for proofs. We aim in particular at the classification of irreducible representations. Only at the end we establish a new result: a natural bijection between the set of irreducible representations of an affine Hecke algebra with real parameters $\geq 1$, and the set of irreducible representations of the affi...

A non-singular sesquilinear form is constructed that is preserved by the Lawrence-Krammer representation. It is shown that if the polynomial variables q and t of the Lawrence-Krammer representation are chosen to be appropriate algebraically independant unit complex numbers, then the form is negative-definite Hermitian. Since unitary matrices diagonalize, the conjugacy class of a matrix in the unitary group is determined by its eigenvalues. It is shown that the eigenvalues of ...

The cyclotomic Birman-Murakami-Wenzl (or BMW) algebras B_n^k, introduced by R. Haring-Oldenburg, are extensions of the cyclotomic Hecke algebras of Ariki-Koike, in the same way as the BMW algebras are extensions of the Hecke algebras of type A. In this paper we focus on the case n=2, producing a basis of B_2^k and constructing its left regular representation.

We study the problem of deciding whether or not the image of an irreducible representation of the braid group $\B_3$ of degree $\leq 5$ has finite image if we are only given the eigenvalues of a generator. We provide a partial algorithm that determines when the images are finite or infinite in all but finitely many cases, and use these results to study examples coming from quantum groups. Our technique uses two classification theorems and the computational group theory packag...

In this paper, we describe the irreducible representations and give a dimension formula for the Framisation of the Temperley-Lieb algebra. We then prove that the Framisation of the Temperley-Lieb algebra is isomorphic to a direct sum of matrix algebras over tensor products of classical Temperley-Lieb algebras. This allows us to construct a basis for it. We also study in a similar way the Complex Reflection Temperley-Lieb algebra.
