This article describes some recently obtained results on the low-energy properties of the "Kondo quartet" model of two spin-1/2 impurities interacting with two channels (flavours) of conduction electrons. We shall particularly emphasize the connections between conformal field-theory methods and bosonisation approaches, which are first illustrated on the example of the single-impurity, two-channel Kondo problem. This article is dedicated to the memory of Claude Itzykson, and w...

We use the non-equilibrium Green's function formalism along with a self-consistent Hartree-Fock approximation to numerically study the effects of a single impurity and interactions between the electrons (with and without spin) on the conductance of a quantum wire. We study how the conductance varies with the wire length, the temperature, and the strength of the impurity and interactions. The dependence of the conductance on the wire length and temperature is found to be in ro...

We discuss the quasiclassical Green function method for a two-dimensional electron gas in the presence of spin-orbit coupling, with emphasis on the meaning of the $\xi$-integration procedure. As an application of our approach, we demonstrate how the spin-Hall conductivity, in the presence of spin-flip scattering, can be easily obtained from the spin-density continuity equation.

We present an electronic model with long range interactions. Through the quantum inverse scattering method, integrability of the model is established using a one-parameter family of typical irreducible representations of gl(2|1). The eigenvalues of the conserved operators are derived in terms of the Bethe ansatz, from which the energy eigenvalues of the Hamiltonian are obtained.

We investigate a Kondo lattice model with correlated conduction electrons. Within dynamical mean-field theory the model maps onto an impurity model where the host has to be determined self-consistently. This impurity model can be derived from an Anderson-Hubbard model both by equating the low-energy excitations of the impurity and by a canonical transformation. On the level of dynamical mean-field theory this establishes the connection of the two lattice models. The impurity ...

We present the exact Bethe Ansatz solution of a multichannel model of one- dimensional correlated electrons coupled antiferromagnetically to a magnetic impurity of arbitrary spin S. The solution reveals that interactions in the bulk make the magnetic impurity drive both spin and charge fluctuations, producing a mixed valence at the impurity site, with an associated effective spin S_eff > S in the presence of a magnetic field. The screening of the impurity spin is controlled b...

We study integrable models for electrons in metals when the single particle spectrum is discrete. The electron-electron interactions are BCS-like pairing, Coulomb repulsion, and spin exchange coupling. These couplings are, in general, nonuniform in the sense that they depend on the levels occupied by the interacting electrons. By using the realization of spin 1/2-operators in terms of electrons the models describe spin 1/2 models with nonuniform long range interactions and ex...

We describe spin correlations in the vicinity of a generalized impurity in a wide class of fractionalized spin liquid states. We argue that the primary characterization of the impurity is its electric charge under the gauge field describing singlet excitations in the spin liquid. We focus on two gapless U(1) spin liquids described by 2+1 dimensional conformal field theories (CFT): the staggered flux (sF) spin liquid, and the deconfined critical point between the Neel and vale...

We study the renormalization of a single impurity potential in one-dimensional interacting electron systems in the presence of magnetic field. Using the bosonization technique and Bethe ansatz solutions, we determine the renormalization group flow diagram for the amplitudes of scattering of up- and down-spin electrons by the impurity in a quantum wire at low electron density and in the Hubbard model at less than half filling. In the absence of magnetic field the repulsive int...

We show how to compute analytically time and space dependent correlations in one dimensional quantum integrable systems with an impurity. Our approach is based on a description of these systems in terms of massless scattering of quasiparticles. Correlators follow then from matrix elements of local operators between multiparticle states, the ``massless form factors''. Although an infinite sum of these form factors has to be considered in principle, we find that for current, sp...
