Neural networks have achieved impressive breakthroughs in both industry and academia. How to effectively develop neural networks on quantum computing devices is a challenging open problem. Here, we propose a new quantum neural network model for quantum neural computing using (classically-controlled) single-qubit operations and measurements on real-world quantum systems with naturally occurring environment-induced decoherence, which greatly reduces the difficulties of physical...

In the last few years, quantum computing and machine learning fostered rapid developments in their respective areas of application, introducing new perspectives on how information processing systems can be realized and programmed. The rapidly growing field of Quantum Machine Learning aims at bringing together these two ongoing revolutions. Here we first review a series of recent works describing the implementation of artificial neurons and feed-forward neural networks on quan...

This paper provides an introduction to quantum machine learning, exploring the potential benefits of using quantum computing principles and algorithms that may improve upon classical machine learning approaches. Quantum computing utilizes particles governed by quantum mechanics for computational purposes, leveraging properties like superposition and entanglement for information representation and manipulation. Quantum machine learning applies these principles to enhance class...

Artificial neural network, consisting of many neurons in different layers, is an important method to simulate humain brain. Usually, one neuron has two operations: one is linear, the other is nonlinear. The linear operation is inner product and the nonlinear operation is represented by an activation function. In this work, we introduce a kind of quantum neuron whose inputs and outputs are quantum states. The inner product and activation operator of the quantum neurons can be ...

A new paradigm of quantum computing, namely, soft quantum computing, is proposed for nonclassical computation using real world quantum systems with naturally occurring environment-induced decoherence and dissipation. As a specific example of soft quantum computing, we suggest a quantum neural network, where the neurons connect pairwise via the "controlled Kraus operations", hoping to pave an easier and more realistic way to quantum artificial intelligence and even to better u...

Neural networks enjoy widespread success in both research and industry and, with the imminent advent of quantum technology, it is now a crucial challenge to design quantum neural networks for fully quantum learning tasks. Here we propose the use of quantum neurons as a building block for quantum feed-forward neural networks capable of universal quantum computation. We describe the efficient training of these networks using the fidelity as a cost function and provide both clas...

Quantum machine learning emerges from the symbiosis of quantum mechanics and machine learning. In particular, the latter gets displayed in quantum sciences as: (i) the use of classical machine learning as a tool applied to quantum physics problems, (ii) or the use of quantum resources such as superposition, entanglement, or quantum optimization protocols to enhance the performance of classification and regression tasks compare to their classical counterparts. This paper revie...

We introduce a robust, error-tolerant adaptive training algorithm for generalized learning paradigms in high-dimensional superposed quantum networks, or \emph{adaptive quantum networks}. The formalized procedure applies standard backpropagation training across a coherent ensemble of discrete topological configurations of individual neural networks, each of which is formally merged into appropriate linear superposition within a predefined, decoherence-free subspace. Quantum pa...

The Hopfield neural networks and the holographic neural networks are models which were successfully simulated on conventional computers. Starting with these models, an analogous fundamental quantum information processing system is developed in this article. Neuro-quantum interaction can regulate the "collapse"-readout of quantum computation results. This paper is a comprehensive introduction into associative processing and memory-storage in quantum-physical framework.

We demonstrate, that artificial neural networks (ANN) can be trained to emulate single or multiple basic quantum operations. In order to realize a quantum state, we implement a novel "quantumness gate" that maps an arbitrary matrix to the real representation of a positive hermitean normalized density matrix. We train the CNOT gate, the Hadamard gate and a rotation in Hilbert space as basic building blocks for processing the quantum density matrices of two entangled qubits. Du...
