Fifty years of Mathematics with Masaki Kashiwara

These are reminiscences of I.M.Gelfand's mathematical seminar of 1970s-1980s. The essay will appear in the March 2016 issue of Notices of the AMS.

We discuss new approaches to fundamental problems of mathematics and mathematical physics such as mathematical foundation of quantum field theory, the Riemann hypothesis, and construction of noncommutative algebraic geometry.

In this short essay, I shall try to find a way to humanize mathematics. I shall give some mathematical remarks concerning that. I shall give some brief comments to my past works from the point of view of this paper.
