We construct a surprisingly large class of new Calabi-Yau 3-folds $X$ with small Picard numbers and propose a construction of their mirrors $X^*$ using smoothings of toric hypersurfaces with conifold singularities. These new examples are related to the previously known ones via conifold transitions. Our results generalize the mirror construction for Calabi-Yau complete intersections in Grassmannians and flag manifolds via toric degenerations. There exist exactly 198849 reflex...

In this article, we summarize combinatorial description of complete intersection Calabi-Yau threefolds in Hibi toric varieties. Such Calabi-Yau threefolds have at worst conifold singularities, and are often smoothable to non-singular Calabi-Yau threefolds. We focus on such non-singular Calabi-Yau threefolds of Picard number one, and illustrate the calculation of topological invariants, using new motivating examples.

Using the Kreuzer-Skarke database of 4-dimensional reflexive polytopes, we systematically constructed a new database of orientifold Calabi-Yau threefolds with $h^{1,1}(X) \leq 12$. Our approach involved non-trivial $\mathbb{Z}_2$ involutions, incorporating both divisor exchanges and multi-divisor reflections acting on the Calabi-Yau threefolds. Each proper involution results in an orientifold Calabi-Yau threefolds and we constructed 320,386,067 such examples. We developed a n...

In response to a question of Reid, we find all anti-canonical Calabi-Yau hypersurfaces $X$ in toric weighted projective bundles over the projective line where the general fiber is a weighted K3 hypersurface. This gives a direct generalization of Reid's discovery of the 95 families of weighted K3 hypersurfaces. We also treat the case where $X$ is fibered over the plane with general fiber a genus one curve in a weighted projective plane.

Recent results on duality between string theories and connectedness of their moduli spaces seem to go a long way toward establishing the uniqueness of an underlying theory. For the large class of Calabi-Yau 3-folds that can be embedded as hypersurfaces in toric varieties the proof of mathematical connectedness via singular limits is greatly simplified by using polytopes that are maximal with respect to certain single or multiple weight systems. We identify the multiple weight...

We develop tools that allow the systematic enumeration of inequivalent holomorphic orientifolds of Calabi-Yau hypersurfaces in toric fourfolds of arbitrary Hodge numbers. As examples, we construct an orientifold of the Calabi-Yau hypersurface with largest known Hodge number $h^{1,1}=491$, as well as an orientifold of a Calabi-Yau hypersurface with $h^{1,1}=243$ that yields a large orientifold-odd Hodge number $h^{1,1}_-=120$.

Calabi-Yau manifolds can be obtained as hypersurfaces in toric varieties built from reflexive polytopes. We generate reflexive polytopes in various dimensions using a genetic algorithm. As a proof of principle, we demonstrate that our algorithm reproduces the full set of reflexive polytopes in two and three dimensions, and in four dimensions with a small number of vertices and points. Motivated by this result, we construct five-dimensional reflexive polytopes with the lowest ...

We consider regular Calabi-Yau hypersurfaces in $N$-dimensional smooth toric varieties. On such a hypersurface in the neighborhood of the large complex structure limit point we construct a fibration over a sphere $S^{N-1}$ whose generic fibers are tori $T^{N-1}$. Also for certain one-parameter families of such hypersurfaces we show that the monodromy transformation is induced by a translation of the $T^{N-1}$ fibration by a section. Finally we construct a dual fibration and p...

In this paper we construct all smooth torus fibres of the generalized special Lagrangian torus fibrations for Calabi-Yau hypersurfaces in toric varieties near the large complex limit.

We present the last missing details of our algorithm for the classification of reflexive polyhedra in arbitrary dimensions. We also present the results of an application of this algorithm to the case of three dimensional reflexive polyhedra. We get 4319 such polyhedra that give rise to K3 surfaces embedded in toric varieties. 16 of these contain all others as subpolyhedra. The 4319 polyhedra form a single connected web if we define two polyhedra to be connected if one of them...
