Life and the mathematical legacy of the great mathematician A.V. Pogorelov.

These are reminiscences of V. P. Havin (1933--2015), founder of the modern St. Petersburg analysis school.

This obituary is devoted to M. I. Polikarpov (28.12.1952 - 18.07.2013), our teacher, our colleague, our friend. We recollect some facts of his biography and stages of his scientific career, and make a brief review of some of his most known scientific works. We conclude with some messages of condolence which were received from his colleagues and friends after his sudden death.

This is the editor's preface to the special issue of Journal of Spectral Theory, in memory of Yuri Safarov.

Yurii Fedorovich Smirnov (1935-2008) was a famous theoretical physicist. He achieved his career mainly at the Institute of Nuclear Physics of Moscow. These notes describe some particular facets of the contributions of the late Professor Smirnov in theoretical physics and mathematical physics. They also relate some personal reminiscences on Yurii Smirnov in connection with some of his numerous works.

The main goal of the project Math-Net.Ru is to collect scientific publications in Russian and Soviet mathematics journals since their foundation to today and the authors of these publications into a single database and to provide access to full-text articles for broad international mathematical community. Leading Russian mathematics journals have been comprehensively digitized dating back to the first volumes.

The paper is dedicated to the memory of prominent theoretical physicist and mathematician Dr. Vadim Kuznetsov who worked, in particular, in the fields of the nonlinear dynamics, separation of variables, integrability theory, special functions. It includes his short research biography, an account of the start of his research career and the list of publications.

I was lucky to meet (and even cooperate at some extent) with Israel M. Gelfand, and tried to write down (mainly in 2003-2013) my recollections about his work style and lessons I learned from him about teaching and writing mathematics (though the views are my own and I.M. is not responsible for them in any way).

This article is a tribute to one of the most prominent Polish mathematicians Jozef Marcinkiewicz who perished 80 years ago in the Katyn' massacre. His personality and main mathematical achievements are described.
