Petr Simon (1944-2018)

This article was written on the occasion of Hans Grauert receiving the Cantor Medallion of the Deutsche Mathematische Vereinigung. It is a brief overview of his mathematical contributions and attempts to convey the author's great respect for the man and his science.

This is a survey article about some of the work of Peter Scholze for the Jahresbericht der DMV. No originality is claimed. It is hoped that it can serve as a guideline to an exciting and increasingly large edifice of theory.

These are reminiscences of V. P. Havin (1933--2015), founder of the modern St. Petersburg analysis school.

In remembrance of Professor Uffe Valentin Haagerup (1949--2015), as a brilliant mathematician, we review some aspects of his life, and his outstanding mathematical accomplishments.

We briefly recount the long friendship that developed between Ludwig and us (Moshe Flato and I), since we first met at ICM 1966 in Moscow. That friendship extended to his school and family, and persists to this day. Its strong personal impact and main scientific components are sketched, including reflexions on what mathematical physics is (or should be).

Cem Tezer was a fastidious, meticulous, highly idiosyncratic and versatile scientist. Without him Turkish community of mathematics would be incomplete. Our sense of gratitude for his work in various areas of mathematics, history of sciences, literature, music and his encouragement to do mathematics for only its beauty was hardly unique and even unusual. This paper collects some problems that I have encountered during the years, have puzzled me and which, to the best of my knowledge, are still open. Most of them are well-known and have been first stated by other authors. In this sad season of lockdown, I modestly try to contribute to scientific interaction at a distance.
