2-group symmetries arise in physics when a 0-form symmetry $G^{[0]}$ and a 1-form symmetry $H^{[1]}$ intertwine, forming a generalised group-like structure. I outline a program to derive the Standard Model directly from superstring theory. I present a class of three generation superstring standard--like models in the free fermionic formulation. I discuss some phenomenological properties of these models. In particular these models suggest an explanation for the top quark mass hierarchy. A numerical estimate yielded $m_t\sim175-180~GeV$. In this paper, we systematically study gauge anomalies in bosonic and fermionic weak-coupling gauge theories with gauge group G (which can be continuous or discrete). We show a very close relation between gauge anomalies and symmetry-protected trivial (SPT) orders [also known as symmetry-protected topological (SPT) orders] in one-higher dimensions. We classify Bosonic Topological Insulators and Paramagnets in D<=4 spatial dimensions using the cobordism approach. For D<4 we confirm that the only such phase which does not fit into the group cohomology classification is the 3D Bosonic Topological Insulator protected by time-reversal symmetry whose surface admits an all-fermion topologically ordered state. This article explores possible embeddings of the Standard Model gauge group and its matter representations into F-theory. We hypothesize a new and more complete set of anomalies of certain quantum field theories (QFTs) and then give an eclectic verification. A topological theory for the interactions in Nature is presented. The theory derives from the cyclic properties of the topological manifold Q=2T^3 + 3S^1 x S^2 which has 23 intrinsic degrees of freedom, discrete Z_3 and Z_2 x Z_3 internal groups, an SU(5) gauge group, and an anomalous U(1) symmetry. We study 't Hooft anomalies for discrete global symmetries in bosonic theories in 2, 3 and 4 dimensions. We show that such anomalies may arise in gauge theories with topological terms in the action, if the total symmetry group is a nontrivial extension of the global symmetry by the gauge symmetry.
