In this article we present a pheno-inspired classification for the divisor topologies of the favorable Calabi Yau (CY) threefolds with $1 \leq h^{1,1}(CY) \leq 5$ arising from the four-dimensional reflexive polytopes of the Kreuzer-Skarke database. Based on some empirical observations we conjecture that the topologies of the so-called coordinate divisors can be classified into two categories: (i). $\chi_{_h}(D) \geq 1$ with Hodge numbers given by $\{h^{0,0} = 1, \, h^{1,0} = ...

Calabi-Yau (CY) manifolds play a ubiquitous role in string theory. As a supersymmetry-preserving choice for the 6 extra compact dimensions of superstring compactifications, these spaces provide an arena in which to explore the rich interplay between physics and geometry. These lectures will focus on compact CY manifolds and the long standing problem of determining their Ricci flat metrics. Despite powerful existence theorems, no analytic expressions for these metrics are know...

The enduring legacy of Euclidean geometry underpins classical machine learning, which, for decades, has been primarily developed for data lying in Euclidean space. Yet, modern machine learning increasingly encounters richly structured data that is inherently nonEuclidean. This data can exhibit intricate geometric, topological and algebraic structure: from the geometry of the curvature of space-time, to topologically complex interactions between neurons in the brain, to the al...

We explore the distribution of topological numbers in Calabi-Yau manifolds, using the Kreuzer-Skarke dataset of hypersurfaces in toric varieties as a testing ground. While the Hodge numbers are well-known to exhibit mirror symmetry, patterns in frequencies of combination thereof exhibit striking new patterns. We find pseudo-Voigt and Planckian distributions with high confidence and exact fit for many substructures. The patterns indicate typicality within the landscape of Cala...

In order to find novel examples of non-simply connected Calabi-Yau threefolds, free quotients of complete intersections in products of projective spaces are classified by means of a computer search. More precisely, all automorphisms of the product of projective spaces that descend to a free action on the Calabi-Yau manifold are identified.

We apply machine learning techniques to solve a specific classification problem in 4D F-theory. For a divisor $D$ on a given complex threefold base, we want to read out the non-Higgsable gauge group on it using local geometric information near $D$. The input features are the triple intersection numbers among divisors near $D$ and the output label is the non-Higgsable gauge group. We use decision tree to solve this problem and achieved 85%-98% out-of-sample accuracies for diff...

We review, for a general audience, a variety of recent experiments on extracting structure from machine-learning mathematical data that have been compiled over the years. Focusing on supervised machine-learning on labeled data from different fields ranging from geometry to representation theory, from combinatorics to number theory, we present a comparative study of the accuracies on different problems. The paradigm should be useful for conjecture formulation, finding more eff...

We enumerate topologically-inequivalent compact Calabi-Yau threefold hypersurfaces. By computing arithmetic and algebraic invariants and the Gopakumar-Vafa invariants of curves, we prove that the number of distinct simply connected Calabi-Yau threefold hypersurfaces resulting from triangulations of four-dimensional reflexive polytopes is 4, 27, 183, 1,184 and 8,036 at $h^{1,1}$ = 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5, respectively. We also establish that there are ten equivalence classes of Wall...

We study the Poincare polynomials of all known Calabi-Yau three-folds as constrained polynomials of Littlewood type, thus generalising the well-known investigation into the distribution of the Euler characteristic and Hodge numbers. We find interesting fractal behaviour in the roots of these polynomials in relation to the existence of isometries, distribution versus typicality, and mirror symmetry.

The diffeomorphism class of simply-connected smooth Calabi-Yau threefolds with torsion-free cohomology is determined via certain basic topological invariants: the Hodge numbers, the triple intersection form, and the second Chern class. In the present paper, we shed some light on this classification by placing bounds on the number of diffeomorphism classes present in the set of smooth Calabi-Yau threefolds constructed from the Kreuzer-Skarke list of reflexive polytopes up to P...
