We introduce the notion of algebraic higher symmetry, which generalizes higher symmetry and is beyond higher group. We show that an algebraic higher symmetry in a bosonic system in $n$-dimensional space is characterized and classified by a local fusion $n$-category. We find another way to describe algebraic higher symmetry by restricting to symmetric sub Hilbert space where symmetry transformations all become trivial. In this case, algebraic higher symmetry can be fully chara...

The seesaw mechanism that explains the small neutrino masses comes naturally with supersymmetric (SUSY) grand unification and leptogenesis. However, the framework suffers from the SUSY flavor and CP problems, and has a severe cosmological gravitino problem. We propose anomaly mediation as a simple solution to all these problems, which is viable once supplemented by the D-terms for U(1)_Y and U(1)_{B-L}. Even though the right-handed neutrino mass explicitly breaks U(1)_{B-L} a...

We show that the assumption of non-zero topological susceptibility of the vacuum in a fermion-free version of a theory, such as gravity or QCD, suffices to conclude the following: Once N massless fermion flavors are added to the theory, they break the chiral flavor symmetry dynamically, down to a subgroup that would be anomaly-free under gauging; In both theories, the pseudo-Goldstone corresponding to axial U(1)-symmetry becomes massive; In QCD as well as in gravity the massl...

We show that the discrete anomaly constraints governing popular non-Abelian symmetries of use in (e.g.) flavoured, supersymmetric, and dark matter model building typically subdivide into two classes differentiated by the simple restrictions they impose on the number of fields transforming under certain irreducible representations of the relevant groups. These constraints lead us both to generic conclusions for common Beyond-the-Standard-Model constructions (including rather p...

Electroweak vacuum transition processes (sphalerons) in the early Universe provide a possible explanation of the baryon asymmetry. Anomaly theory suggests that these electroweak baryon number non-conserving processes are accompanied by the formation of a ``topological condensate'' which may remain in the Universe that we observe today.

We describe a new mechanism - radiatively-induced gravitational leptogenesis - for generating the matter-antimatter asymmetry of the Universe. We show how quantum loop effects in C and CP violating theories cause matter and antimatter to propagate differently in the presence of gravity, and prove this is forbidden in flat space by CPT and translation symmetry. This generates a curvature-dependent chemical potential for leptons, allowing a matter-antimatter asymmetry to be gen...

Gravitational leptogenesis is an elegant way of explaining the matter-antimatter asymmetry in the universe. This paper is a review of the recently proposed mechanism of radiatively-induced gravitational leptogenesis (RIGL), in which loop effects in QFT in curved spacetime automatically generate an asymmetry between leptons and antileptons in thermal quasi-equilibrium in the early universe. The mechanism is illustrated in a simple see-saw BSM model of neutrinos, where the lept...

Torsion appears in a natural way in modern formulations of the gravitational theories. In this work we study several aspects of the interplay between the Standard Model and a classical gravitational background with torsion. In particular we consider the problem of the gauge and gravitational anomalies, $B$ and $L$ anomalies, the effective action for the torsion and the propagation of electromagnetic radiation in the presence of torsion.

We study $4$-dimensional $SU(N)\times U(1)$ gauge theories with a single massless Dirac fermion in the $2$-index symmetric/antisymmetric representations and show that they are endowed with a noninvertible $0$-form $\widetilde {\mathbb Z}_{2(N\pm 2)}^{\chi}$ chiral symmetry along with a $1$-form $\mathbb Z_N^{(1)}$ center symmetry. By using the Hamiltonian formalism and putting the theory on a spatial three-torus $\mathbb T^3$, we construct the non-unitary gauge invariant oper...

We study four-dimensional gauge theories with arbitrary simple gauge group with $1$-form global center symmetry and $0$-form parity or discrete chiral symmetry. We canonically quantize on $\mathbb{T}^3$, in a fixed background field gauging the $1$-form symmetry. We show that the mixed $0$-form/$1$-form 't Hooft anomaly results in a central extension of the global-symmetry operator algebra. We determine this algebra in each case and show that the anomaly implies degeneracies i...
