In the first section we present the atomic part where a C2+ atomic target was prepared and used to generate theoretical data to investigate recombination lines arising from electron-ion collisions in thin plasma. R-matrix method was used to describe the C2+ plus electron system. Theoretical data concerning bound and autoionizing states were generated in the intermediate-coupling approximation. The data were used to generate dielectronic recombination data for C+ which include...

Dielectronic recombination resonance strengths, energy-differential cross sections, and recombination rate coefficients are calculated fully relativistically for Fe$^{2+}$ ions. The ground-state and resonance energies are determined using the multiconfiguration Dirac-Hartree-Fock method. Radiative and auto-ionization rates are computed with a relativistic configuration interaction method. For the calculation of Auger widths and resonance strengths, the continuum electron is t...

We have measured the resonance strengths and energies for dielectronic recombination (DR) of Fe XX forming Fe XIX via N=2 --> N'=2 (Delta_N=0) core excitations. We have also calculated the DR resonance strengths and energies using AUTOSTRUCTURE, HULLAC, MCDF, and R-matrix methods, four different state-of-the-art theoretical techniques. On average the theoretical resonance strengths agree to within <~10% with experiment. However, the 1 sigma standard deviation for the ratios o...

We present a theoretical investigation of dielectronic recombination (DR) of Ar-like ions that sheds new light on the behavior of the rate coefficient at low-temperatures where these ions form in photoionized plasmas. We provide results for the total and partial Maxwellian-averaged DR rate coefficients from the initial ground level of K II -- Zn XIII ions. It is expected that these new results will advance the accuracy of the ionization balance for Ar-like M-shell ions and pa...

Photoionization cross sections calculations on the halogen-like ions; Kr$^+$ and Xe$^+$ have been performed for a photon energy range from each ion threshold to 15 eV, using large-scale close-coupling calculations within the Dirac-Coulomb R-matrix approximation. The results from our theoretical work are compared with recent measurements made at the ASTRID merged-beam set-up at the University of Aarhus in Denmark and from the Fourier transform ion cyclotron resonance (FT-ICR) ...

The CHIANTI atomic database provides sets of assessed data used for simulating spectral observations of astrophysical plasmas. This article describes updates that will be released as version~10.1 of the database. A key component of CHIANTI is the provision of ionization and recombination rates that are used to compute the ionization balance of a plasma over a range of temperatures. Parameters for calculating the ionization rates of all stages of ions from H through Zn were co...

We discuss recent improvements in the calculation of the radiative cooling in both collisionally and photo ionized plasmas. We are extending the spectral simulation code Cloudy so that as much as possible of the underlying atomic data is taken from external databases, some created by others, some developed by the Cloudy team. This paper focuses on recent changes in the treatment of many stages of ionization of iron, and discusses its extensions to other elements. The H-like a...

Latest developments in theoretical computations since the international Opacity Project (OP), under the new the Iron Project (IP) and extensions, are described for applications to a variety of objects such as stellar atmospheres, nebulae, and active galactic nuclei. The primary atomic processes are: electron impact excitation (EIE), photoionization, electron-ion recombination, and bound-bound transitions, all considered using the accurate and powerful R-matrix method includin...

We describe the latest release of AtomDB, version 2.0.2, a database of atomic data and a plasma modeling code with a focus on X-ray astronomy. This release includes several major updates to the fundamental atomic structure and process data held within AtomDB, incorporating new ionization balance data, state-selective recombination data, and updated collisional excitation data for many ions, including the iron L-shell ions from Fe$^{+16}$ to Fe$^{+23}$ and all of the hydrogen-...

Extensive resonance structures are manifest in R-Matrix (RM) calculations. However, there exist a large number of highly excited electronic configurations that may contribute to background non-resonant bound-free opacity in high-temperature plasmas. Since RM calculations are very complex, and not essential for background contributions, the Relativistic Distorted Wave (RDW) method is utilized to complement ("top-up") photoionization cross sections of Fe XVII obtained using Clo...
