We present a multi-wavelength study (BVRI band photometry and HI line interferometry) of nine late-type galaxies selected from the HIPASS Bright Galaxy Catalog on the basis of apparently high HI mass-to-light ratios (3 M_sun/L_sun < M_HI/L_B < 27 M_sun/L_sun). We report on the recent developments of our long-term investigation of the near-IR luminosity-metallicity relation for dwarf irregular galaxies in nearby groups. A very well-defined relation is emerging from our observational database, and a preliminary discussion of its implications is given.

(Abridged) We present deep Keck spectroscopy, using the DEIMOS and LRIS spectrographs, of a large and representative sample of 67 ``Extremely Red Objects'' (EROs) to H=20.5, with I-H>3.0, in three of the Las Campanas Infrared Survey fields. We present preliminary results of a neutral hydrogen (HI) redshift survey to find low surface brightness (LSB) galaxies in the very nearby universe. Our sample consists of all galaxies in the APM catalog (Maddox et al 1990) with a mean surface brightness of mu > 24 mag/arcsec^2, down to a magnitude limit of b_j < 17. In this paper we present results of a pilot study to use imaging data from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) to search for low-surface-brightness (LSB) galaxies.
