We have used the Fourier cross spectra of Cyg X-1, as obtained with BATSE during a period of almost 2000 days, to estimate the phase (or time) lags between X-ray flux variations in the 20-50 keV and the 50-100 keV bands as a function of Fourier frequency, nu. Most black hole candidate X-ray binaries show Fourier time lags between softer and harder X-rays. We present timing analysis for a Rossi X-ray Timing Explorer observation of Cygnus X-1 in its hard/low state. Here we present timing analysis of a set of eight Rossi X-ray Timing Explorer (RXTE) observations of the black hole candidate GX 339-4 that were taken during its hard/low state. We present a model for the short timescale spectral variability of accreting black holes.
