We present a systematic analysis of the X-ray spectral properties of a sample of 22 ``narrow-line'' Seyfert 1 galaxies for which data are available from the ASCA public archive. Many of these sources, which were selected on the basis of their relatively narrow H-beta line width (FWHM <= 2000 km/s), show significant spectral complexity in the X-ray band. Their measured hard power-law continua have photon indices spanning the range 1.6 - 2.5 with a mean of 2.1, which is only sl...

We report identification of a narrow-line Seyfert 1 galaxy RXJ1236.9+2656. X-ray emission from the NLS1 galaxy undergoes long-term variability with 0.1--2.0 keV flux changing by a factor of 2 within about 3 yr. The ROSAT PSPC spectrum of RXJ1236.9+2656 is well represented by a power-law of Gamma = 3.7 absorbed by matter in our own Galaxy (N_H = 1.33X10^20 cm**-2). Intrinsic soft X-ray luminosity of the NLS1 galaxy is estimated to be 1.5X10^43 erg/s in the energy band of 0.1-2...

We have discovered four AGN in the ROSAT all-sky-survey data with very steep X-ray spectra. We apply several models to these X-ray spectra with emphasis on warm absorber models which give an adequate description of the data. We report on the follow-up optical and radio observations which allow the identification of three of these objects as Narrow Line Seyfert 1 galaxies, and the fourth as BL Lac object. We have measured small-FWHM Hbeta lines, strong FeII emission and weak [...

Narrow Line Seyfert 1 (NLSy1) galaxies are a peculiar class of type 1 AGN (BLSy1). The X-ray properties of individual objects belonging to this class are often extreme and associated with accretion at high Eddington ratios. Here we present a study on a sample of 14 NLSy1 galaxies selected at hard X-rays (> 20 keV) from the fourth INTEGRAL/IBIS catalogue. The 20-100 keV IBIS spectra show hard X-ray photon indeces flatly distributed (Gamma_{20-100 keV} ranging from ~1.3 to ~3.6...

The soft X-ray band of many active galactic nuclei (AGNs) is affected by obscuration due to partially ionised matter crossing our line of sight. In this context, two past XMM-Newton observations (6 months apart) and a simultaneous NuSTAR-Swift ($\sim$8 years later) exposure of the Narrow Line Seyfert 1 galaxy 1E 0754.6+392.8 revealed an intense and variable WA and hints of additional absorbers in the Fe K$\alpha$ band. We present the first X-ray characterisation of this AGN d...

Recent ASCA and ROSAT X-ray observations of active galaxies have revealed a host of new data on the fundamental properties of active galaxies. Amongst these are the discovery and characterization of absorption by ionized gas in Seyfert-I galaxies (the "warm absorber") , the discovery and parameterization of broad Fe K lines which originate in the central 100 Schwarzschild radii, a substantial modification in the form of the ionization continuum from previous models and the ab...

We report the results of two Chandra ACIS-S observations from February and August 2003 of the highly X-ray variable Narrow-Line Seyfert 1 galaxy RX J2217.9--5941. Observations spanning the time from the ROSAT All Sky Survey (RASS) through an ASCA observation in 1998 indicate apparently monotonically decreasing flux by a factor of 30. The Chandra observations reveal increased emission over that seen in ASCA, supporting a persistent variability rather than an X-ray outburst eve...

We present a sample of 150 narrow-line Seyfert 1s (NLS1s) found within the Sloan Digital Sky Survey Early Data Release (EDR), only two of which were previously identified as such. This substantially increases the known number of NLS1s, and provides a basic method by which to identify many more with subsequent releases of SDSS data. With its large size and homogeneous, well-defined selection criteria, this sample will help alleviate two major problems which have plauged NLS1 r...

We present the first look at the spectral and timing analysis of Narrow-Line Seyfert 1 Galaxies (NLS1s) with the extended ROentgen Survey with an Imaging Telescope Array (eROSITA) on board the Spectrum-Roentgen-Gamma (SRG) mission. The sample of about 1,200 NLS1s was obtained via cross-match of the first eROSITA All-Sky Survey (eRASS1) catalogue with the catalogue of spectroscopically selected NLS1s from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) DR12 by Rakshit et al. [ApJS, 229, 3...

We report the discovery and analysis of the follow-up ROSAT pointed observation, an ASCA observation and optical and radio observations of the enigmatic Narrow-Line Seyfert 1 galaxy RX J0134.2-4258. While its spectrum was one of the softest observed from an AGN during the ROSAT All-Sky Survey, its spectrum was found to be dramatically harder during a pointed observation although the count rate remained constant. In the pointed observation we found that the spectrum is softer ...
