We investigate the nature of the substantial population of high-z galaxies with Js-Ks>2.3 discovered as part of our FIRES survey. This colour cut efficiently isolates z>2 galaxies with red rest-frame optical colors ("Distant Red Galaxies" or DRGs). We present 20 band photometry from the far-IR to X-ray in the Spitzer IRAC dark field. The bias for the near-IR camera on Spitzer is calibrated by observing a ~20 arcminute diameter "dark" field near the north ecliptic pole roughly every two-to-three weeks throughout the mission duration of Spitzer. We have compiled a sample of $\sim 9600$ bright, $i\le 18.95$, red, $b_j-r>2$, candidate galaxies in an area of 220 deg$^2$. These are luminous, $L > L^*$, field early-type galaxies with redshifts $0.3 \la z \la 0.6$. We present a redshift catalogue of a sub-sample of 581 targets. We present optical and near-IR photometry of 96 dusty, far-IR luminous galaxies. We have precise spectroscopic redshifts for all these galaxies yielding a median redshift of z=2.2. We use very deep near-infrared photometry of the Hubble Deep Field South taken with ISAAC/VLT to identify a population of high redshift galaxies with rest- frame optical colors similar to those of nearby galaxies.
