In a variety of mesoscopic systems shot noise is seen to be suppressed in comparison with its Poisson value. In this work we observe a considerable enhancement of shot noise in the case of resonant tunnelling via localised states. We present a model of correlated transport through two localised states which provides both a qualitative and quantitative description of this effect.

An on-chip detection scheme for high frequency signals is used to detect noise generated by a quantum dot formed in a single wall carbon nanotube. The noise detection is based on photon assisted tunneling in a superconductor-insulator-superconductor junction. Measurements of shot noise over a full Coulomb diamond are reported with excited states and inelastic cotunneling clearly resolved. Super-Poissonian noise is detected in the case of inelastic cotunneling.

We performed low temperature shot noise measurements in Superconductor (TiN) - strongly disordered normal metal (heavily doped Si) weakly transparent junctions. We show that the conductance has a maximum due to coherent multiple reflections at low energy and that shot noise is then twice the Poisson noise (S=4eI). The shot noise changes to the normal value (S=2eI) due to a large quasiparticle contribution.
