In this work, we have thoroughly studied the effects of flux composition and temperature on the crystal growth of the BaCu2As2 compound. While Pb and CuAs self-flux produce the well-known {\alpha}-phase ThCr2Si2-type structure (Z=2), a new polymorphic phase of BaCu2As2 (\b{eta} phase) with a much larger c lattice parameter (Z=10), which could be considered an intergrowth of the ThCr2Si2- and CaBe2Ge2-type structures, has been discovered via Sn flux growth. We have characteriz...

The effects of Co-substitution on Ba(Ni$_{1-x}$Co$_x$)$_2$As$_2$ ($0\leq x\leq 0.251$) single crystals grown out of Pb flux are investigated via transport, magnetic, and thermodynamic measurements. BaNi$_2$As$_2$ exhibits a first order tetragonal to triclinic structural phase transition at $T_s=137 K$ upon cooling, and enters a superconducting phase below $T_c=0.7 K$. The structural phase transition is sensitive to cobalt content and is suppressed completely by $x\geq0.133$. ...

Experimental measurements clearly reveal the presence of bulk superconductivity in the CsPbxBi4-xTe6 (0.3=<x=<1.0) materials, i.e. the first member of the thermoelectric series of Cs[PbmBi3Te5+m], these materials have the layered orthorhombic structure containing infinite anionic [PbBi3Te6]- slabs separated with Cs+ cations. Temperature dependences of electrical resistivity, magnetic susceptibility, and specific heat have consistently demonstrated that the superconducting tra...

Polycrystalline samples with nominal composition of Ba(Fe1-xIrx)2As2 (x=0.10, 0.15, and 0.20) were investigated by means of X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), electrical resistivity, and magnetization measurements. XRD and SEM results showed that almost single phase samples were obtained. Bulk superconductivity with TC~28 K was observed in the x=0.10 sample. TC~28 K is the highest superconducting critical temperature among the reported data for elect...

Bulk superconductor samples of YBa2Cu3-xZnxO7-{\delta} with x = 0, 0.01, 0.03 are synthesized by solid-state reaction route. The structural characterisation of all samples has been carried out by x-ray-diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) techniques. The x-ray diffraction patterns indicate that the gross structure/phase of YBa2Cu3-xZnxO7-{\delta} do not change with the substitution of Zn up to x=0.03. In TEM investigations of Zn-doped Y-based cuprates ...

By means of low-temperature scanning tunneling microscopy, we report on the electronic structures of BiO and SrO planes of Bi2Sr2CuO6+{\delta} (Bi-2201) superconductor prepared by argon-ion bombardment and annealing. Depending on post annealing conditions, the BiO planes exhibit either pseudogap (PG) with sharp coherence peaks and an anomalously large gap of 49 meV or van Hove singularity (VHS) near the Fermi level, while the SrO is always characteristic of a PG-like feature....

To prevent the loss of K in growing single crystals of Ba1-x Kx Fe2 As2 we developed a rapid heating Sn-flux method. Large single crystals with the optimal superconducting transition temperature TC about 38K were obtained and their structural, chemical and superconducting properties were investigated. Additionally, the effect of post growth annealing at different temperatures were also examined on these crystals. Scanning electron microscopy microprobe studies on a samples wi...

In this paper, the $Fe$-containing superconductors $Fe_{0.5}Cu_{0.5}Ba_2YCu_2O_{7+\delta}$, $Fe_{0.5}Cu_{0.5}BaSrYCu_2O_{7+\delta}$ and $Fe_{0.5}Cu_{0.5}Sr_2YCu_2O_{7+\delta}$ were successfully prepared by common solid-state reaction followed with a procedure of high pressure synthesis. The structural change and superconducting properties in $(Fe_xCu_{1-x})BaSrYCu_2O_{7+\delta}$ ($x$ = 0 $\sim$ 1.0) systems were also investigated. Annealing experiments indicate that the occur...

Microscopic, structural, transport and thermodynamic measurements of single crystalline Ba(Fe1-xTMx)2As2 (TM = Ni and Cu) series, as well as two mixed TM = Cu / Co series, are reported. All the transport and thermodynamic measurements indicate that the structural and magnetic phase transitions at 134 K in pure BaFe2As2 are monotonically suppressed and increasingly separated in a similar manner by these dopants. In the Ba(Fe1-xNix)2As2 (x =< 0.072), superconductivity, with Tc ...

We report superconductivity in single crystals of the new iron-pnictide system BaFe1.9Pt0.1As2 grown by a self-flux solution method and characterized via x-ray, transport, magnetic and thermodynamic measurements. The magnetic ordering associated with a structural transition at 140 K present in BaFe2As2 is completely suppressed by substitution of 5% Fe with Pt and superconductivity is induced at a critical temperature Tc=23 K. Full diamagnetic screening in the magnetic suscept...
