The Kondo effect is investigated in a many-electron quantum ring as a function of magnetic field. For fields applied perpendicular to the plane of the ring a modulation of the Kondo effect with the Aharonov-Bohm period is observed. This effect is discussed in terms of the energy spectrum of the ring and the parametrically changing tunnel coupling. In addition, we use gate voltages to modify the ground-state spin of the ring. The observed splitting of the Kondo-related zero-bi...

In this work we analyze how coherent transport through a Quantum Dot (QD) in the Kondo regime is affected by the weak capacitive interaction with a nearby biased Quantum Point Contact (QPC). We find that when the QD-QPC interaction is weak the width of the Kondo resonance is hardly affected by it. However, the spectral weight of the Kondo peak is reduced leading to an observable suppression of the conductance and the elastic transmission probability through the QD.

Mesoscopic Aharonov-Bohm interferometers have been used in attempts to measure the transmission phase of a quantum dot which is placed on one arm of the interferometer. Here we review theoretical results for the conductance through such interferometers, for both the closed (two-terminal) and open (multi-terminal) cases. In addition to earlier results for the Coulomb blockade regime, we present new results for the strongly correlated Kondo regime, and test the consistency of t...

We study the transmission through a double quantum-dot system in the Kondo regime. An exact expression for the transmission coefficient in terms of fully interacting many-body Green's functions is obtained. By mapping the system into an effective Anderson impurity model, one can determine the transmission using numerical renormalization-group methods. The transmission exhibits signatures of the different Kondo regimes of the effective model, including an unusual Kondo phase w...

Recent double-slit interference experiments have demonstrated the possibility of probing the phase of the complex transmission coefficient of a quantum dot via the Aharonov-Bohm effect. We propose an extension of these experiments: an ac voltage imposed on the side gate with the concomitant photonic sidebands leads to additional structure both in the amplitude and in the phase of the Aharonov-Bohm signal. Observation of these effects would be a definitive proof of coherent ab...

Mesoscopic systems constitute appealing platforms to study many-body physics with light and matter degrees of freedom. The Kondo effect refers to the screening of a spin-1/2 impurity by a cloud of conduction electrons, then forming a many-body Fermi liquid ground state. The Kondo resonance produces a phase shift in the transmitted electronic wave packet which depends on the symmetry and nature of the many-body ground state. Theoretical calculations suggest that the Kondo reso...

Kondo correlation in a spin polarized quantum dot (QD) results from the dynamical formation of a spin singlet between the dot's net spin and a Kondo cloud of electrons in the leads, leading to enhanced coherent transport through the QD. We demonstrate here significant dephasing of such transport by coupling the QD and its leads to potential fluctuations in a near by 'potential detector'. The qualitative dephasing is similar to that of a QD in the Coulomb Blockade regime in sp...

The conductance ${\cal G}$ of an Aharonov-Bohm interferometer (ABI), with a strongly correlated quantum dot on one arm, is expressed in terms of the dot Green function, $G_{dd}$, the magnetic flux $\phi$ and the non-interacting parameters of the ABI. We show that one can extract $G_{dd}$ from the observed oscillations of ${\cal G}$ with $\phi$, for both closed and open ABI's. In the latter case, the phase shift $\beta$ deduced from ${\cal G} \approx A+B\cos(\phi+\beta)$ depen...

We report a theoretical analysis of parametric electron pump through a quantum dot in the Kondo regime. In the adiabatic regime, we have derived the expression for pumped current in the Kondo regime using non-equilibrium Green's function. The pumped current versus different system parameters such as gate voltage, pumping amplitude, as well as the phase difference between two pumping forces are calculated and interesting physics are revealed.

We study the Kondo effect in a quantum dot embedded in a mesoscopic ring taking into account intradot spin-flip scattering $R$. Based on the finite-$U$ slave-boson mean-field approach, we find that the Kondo peak in the density of states is split into two peaks by this coherent spin-flip transition, which is responsible for some interesting features of the Kondo-assisted persistent current circulating the ring: (1) strong suppression and crossover to a sine function form with...
