The concept of "Isolated Horizon" has been recently used to provide a full Hamiltonian treatment of black holes. It has been applied successfully to the cases of {\it non-rotating}, {\it non-distorted} black holes in Einstein Vacuum, Einstein-Maxwell and Einstein-Maxwell-Dilaton Theories. In this note, it is investigated the extent to which the framework can be generalized to the case of non-Abelian gauge theories where `hairy black holes' are known to exist. It is found that...

Several hairy black hole solutions are known to violate the original version of the celebrated no-hair conjecture. This prompted the development of a new theorem that establishes a universal lower bound on the extension of hairs outside any $4$-dimensional black hole solutions of general relativity. Our work presents a novel generalization of this ``no-short hair'' theorem, which notably does not use gravitational field equations and is valid for arbitrary spacetime dimension...

In the realm of spacetimes governed by Einstein's general relativity and containing only Maxwell's electromagnetic field, stationary black holes are fully characterized by their mass, electric or magnetic charge, and angular momentum -- a property encapsulated in a version of the no-hair theorem. However, the validity of this theorem is contingent on certain assumptions, and when these are relaxed, new solutions describing hairy black holes arise. To date, astronomical observ...

We investigate the interior of the Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet charged black-hole with scalar hair. We find a variety of dynamical epochs, with the particular important feature that the Cauchy horizon is not present. This makes the violation of the no-hair theorem a possible tool to understand how might the strong cosmic censorship conjecture work.

We discuss thermodynamical stability for hairy black hole spacetimes, viewed as defects in the thermodynamical parameter space, taking into account the backreaction of a secondary hair onto the spacetime geometry, which is modified non trivially. We derive, in a model independent way, the conditions for the hairy black hole with the secondary hair to reach a stable thermal equilibrium with the heat bath. Specifically, if the scalar hair, induced by interactions of the matter ...

This is a brief summary of the most important hairy black hole solutions in 3+1 spacetime dimensions discovered over the last 25 years. These were first of all the Einstein-Yang-Mills black holes and their various generalizations including the Higgs field, the dilaton and the curvature corrections, and also the Skyrme black holes. More recently, these were black holes supporting a scalar field violating the energy conditions or non-minimally coupled to gravity, and also spinn...

Hairy black holes (BHs) have macroscopic degrees of freedom which are not associated with a Gauss law. As such, these degrees of freedom are not manifest as quasi-local quantities computed at the horizon. This suggests conceiving hairy BHs as an interacting system with two components: a "bald" horizon coupled to a "hairy" environment. Based on this idea we suggest an effective model for hairy BHs -- typically described by numerical solutions -- that allows computing analytica...

We show that the asymptotically flat hairy black holes, solutions of the Einstein field equations minimally coupled to a scalar field, previously discovered by one of us, present mode instability against linear radial perturbations. It is also shown that the number of unstable modes is finite and their frequencies can be made arbitrarily small.

The behavior of hairy black hole solutions, obtained by the gravitational decoupling (GD) method, is investigated under scalar perturbations. The quasinormal mode frequencies of such solutions are regulated by GD hair. The numerically generated wave solutions are derived for a range of values for the GD hairy black hole parameters, with higher-frequency modes very sensitive to them. The results are confronted with the corresponding ones for the Schwarzschild solution, whose d...

Black hole solutions can be used to shed light on general issues in General Relativity and Quantum Physics. Black--hole hair, entropy and naked singularities are considered here, along with some implications for the inflationary universe scenario.
