We construct hairy black hole solutions that merge with the anti-de Sitter (AdS$_4$) Reissner-Nordstr\"om black hole at the onset of superradiance. These hairy black holes have, for a given mass and charge, higher entropy than the corresponding AdS$_4$-Reissner-Nordstr\"om black hole. Therefore, they are natural candidates for the endpoint of the charged superradiant instability. On the other hand, hairy black holes never dominate the canonical and grand-canonical ensembles. ...

In holographic applications one can encounter scenarios where a long-wavelength instability can arise. In such situations, it is often the case that the dynamical end point of the instability is a new equilibrium phase with a nonlinear scalar hair condensate outside the black hole horizon. We here review holographic setups where symmetric horizons suffer from long-wavelength instabilities where a suitable equilibrium condensate phase does not exist. We study the dynamics of t...

In this paper, we study the propagations of external fields in Horndeski theory, including the scalar field, electromagnetic field and Dirac field. We extensively explore the quasinormal frequencies, time evolution, greybody factors and emission rates of those massless perturbing fields by solving the corresponding master equations in the Horndeski hairy black hole. With the use of both numerical and analytical methods, we disclose the competitive/promotional influences of th...

I discuss a recent analytic proof of bypassing the no-hair conjecture for two interesting (and quite generic) cases of four-dimensional black holes: (i) black holes in Einstein-Yang-Mills-Higgs (EYMH) systems and (ii) black holes in higher-curvature (Gauss-Bonnet (GB) type) string-inspired gravity. Both systems are known to possess black-hole solutions with non-trivial scalar hair outside the horizon. The `spirit' of the no-hair conjecture, however, seems to be maintained eit...

We analyze numerically the existence of regular stationary rotating hairy black holes within the framework of general relativity, which are the result of solving the Einstein-Klein-Gordon system for a complex-valued scalar field under suitable boundary (regularity and asymptotically flat) conditions. To that aim we solve the corresponding system of elliptic partial differential equations using spectral methods which are specially suited for such a numerical task. In order to ...

This proceeding reviews the recent finding of a certain class of, regular on and outside the horizon, exact hairy black hole solutions in four dimensional general relativity. Their construction follow from the integrability of a cohomogeneity two Weyl rescaling of the Carter-Debever ansatz in the presence of an arbitrary number of scalar fields with an arbitrary self interaction and an arbitrary non-minimal coupling to the scalar curvature. Two field equations, independent of...

The thermodynamic properties of a static and spherically symmetric hairy black hole solution arising in massive gravity with spontaneous Lorentz breaking are investigated. The analysis is carried out by enclosing the black hole in a spherical cavity whose surface is maintained at a fixed temperature $T$. It turns out that the ensemble is well-defined only if the "hair" parameter $Q$ characterizing the solution is conserved. Under this condition we compute some relevant thermo...

In a recent paper (Phys. Dark Univ. {\bf 31}, 100744 (2021)) it has been obtained new static black hole solutions with primary hairs by the Gravitational Decoupling. In this work we either study the geodesic motion of massive and massless particles around those solutions and restrict the values of the primary hairs by observational data. In particular, we obtain the effective potential, the innermost stable circular orbits, the marginally bounded orbit, and the periastron adv...

We investigate scalar field perturbations of the hairy black holes involved with spontaneous symmetry breaking of the global U(1) symmetry in Einstein-scalar-Gauss-Bonnet theory for asymptotically flat spacetimes. We consider the mechanism that black holes without hairs become unstable at the critical point of the coupling constant and undergo a phase transition to hairy black holes in the symmetry-broken phase driven by spontaneous symmetry breaking. This transition occurs n...

In a recent Letter we have shown that in shift-symmetric Horndeski theory the scalar field is forced to obtain a nontrivial configuration in black hole spacetimes, unless a linear coupling with the Gauss-Bonnet invariant is tuned away. As a result, black holes generically have hair in this theory. In this companion paper, we first review our argument and discuss it in more detail. We then present actual black hole solutions in the simplest case of a theory with the linear sca...
