Motivated by the recent interest in quantization of black hole area spectrum, we consider the area spectrum of Schwarzschild, BTZ, extremal Reissner-Nordstr\"om, near extremal Schwarzschild-de Sitter, and Kerr black holes. Based on the proposal by Bekenstein and others that the black hole area spectrum is discrete and equally spaced, we implement Kunstatter's method to derive the area spectrum for these black holes. We show that although as Schwarzschild black hole the spectr...

Since the Bekenstein's proposal that a black hole has equally spaced area spectrum, the quasinormal modes as the characteristic modes of a black hole have been used in obtaining the horizon area spectrum of the black hole. However, the area spectrum of the Kerr black hole in some previous works was inconsistent with the Bekenstein's proposal. In this paper, we notice that the Kerr black hole has three types of resonance modes which are quasinormal modes (QNM), total transmiss...

We study analytically quasinormal modes in a wide variety of black hole spacetimes, including $d$--dimensional asymptotically flat spacetimes and non-asymptotically flat spacetimes (particular attention has been paid to the four dimensional case). We extend the analytical calculation to include first-order corrections to analytical expressions for quasinormal mode frequencies by making use of a monodromy technique. All possible type perturbations are included in this paper. T...

In the present work we compute the spectrum of quasinormal frequencies of four-dimensional charged black holes in Einstein-power-Maxwell theory. In particular we study scalar perturbations adopting the 6th order WKB approximation. We analyze in detail the behaviour of the spectrum depending on the charge of the black hole, the quantum number of angular momentum and the overtone number. In addition, a comparison is made between the results obtained here and the results valid f...

We have studied the charged scalar perturbation around a dilaton black hole in 2 +1 dimensions. The wave equations of a massless charged scalar field is shown to be exactly solvable in terms of hypergeometric functions. The quasinormal frequencies are computed exactly. The relation between the quasinormal frequencies and the charge of the black hole, charge of the scalar and the temperature of the black hole are analyzed. The asymptotic form of the real part of the quasinorma...

This paper systematically investigates the quasinormal modes (QNMs) of a scalar field around a charged loop quantum black hole (BH). The BH is characterized by two key parameters: the quantum parameter $b_0$ and the charge parameter $Q$. We explore two scenarios: one where the multipole quantum number $l=0$, in which only the gravitational potential is relevant, and another where $l > 0$, in which both $Q$ and $b_0$ jointly influence the quasinormal frequencies (QNFs). For $l...

In Phys. Rev. D 78 (2008) 104018 [arXiv:0807.1481], the conclusion that "entropy eigenvalues of GB black hole are discrete and equally spaced, but the area spacing is not equidistant" was firstly presented by Kothawala, Padmanabhan and Sarkar. In this paper, using the new physical interpretation of quasinormal modes proposed by Maggiore, we calculate the quantum spectra of entropy for various types of non-rotating black holes with no charge. The spectrum is obtained by imposi...

When a classical black hole is perturbed, its relaxation is governed by a set of quasinormal modes with complex frequencies \omega= \omega_R+i\omega_I. We show that this behavior is the same as that of a collection of damped harmonic oscillators whose real frequencies are (\omega_R^2+\omega_I^2)^{1/2}, rather than simply \omega_R. Since, for highly excited modes, \omega_I >> \omega_R, this observation changes drastically the physical understanding of the black hole spectrum, ...

The anomalous decay rate of the quasinormal modes occurs when the longest-lived modes are the ones with higher angular number. Such behaviour has been recently studied in different static spacetimes, for uncharged scalar and fermionic perturbations, being observed in both cases. In this work we consider the propagation of charged massive scalar fields in the background of Reissner-Nordstr\"om-de Sitter black holes and we mainly study the effect of the scalar field charge in t...

We investigate quasinormal modes of a massless charged scalar field on a small Reissner-Nordstr\"om-anti-de Sitter (RN-AdS) black hole both with analytical and numerical approaches. In the analytical approach, by using the small black hole approximation (r_+ << L), we obtain the quasinormal mode frequencies in the limit of r_+/L -> 0, where r_+ and L stand for the black hole event horizon radius and the AdS scale, respectively. We then show that the small RN-AdS black hole is...
