Puzzle Pieces: Results on bbbar and ccbar Spectroscopy and Decay

This HADRON05 summary covers the topics of (1) mesons containing heavy quarks, and (2) theory. The new material discussed here is taken mainly from plenary presentations. We specifically emphasize new or recent results in spectroscopy that are likely to appear in future editions of the PDG. An exception is made for the pentaquark, which has now been withdrawn. We review the physics of heavy quark and quarkonium production in high energy hadronic collisions. We discuss the status of the theoretical calculations and compare the current results with the most recent measurements from the Tevatron collider experiments.

This is the summary talk of a meeting held at the California Institute of Technology Sept 10-13, 2001. I do not attempt to summarize all the beautiful experimental results we have seen this week, nor to repeat the lively theoretical discussions that have occurred. Rather I will present my own biased perspective on what we have learned, and on the important tasks that need our attention as we work to make the most of the rapidly accumulating data in this field.

I discuss several recent highly accurate theoretical predictions for masses of baryons containing the b quark, as well as an effective supersymmetry between heavy quark baryons and mesons. I also suggest some possibilities for observing exotic hadrons containing heavy quarks.

We present recent results of hadron spectroscopy and hadron-hadron interaction from the perspective of constituent quark models. We pay special attention to the role played by higher order Fock space components in the hadron spectra and the connection of this extension with the hadron-hadron interaction. Some recent CDF results on heavy quarks (mainly $b$) are presented, including baryon masses and lifetimes, CP violation in charmless baryon decays, $B_c$ production, $A_{FB}$ at high $m(b \bar b)$, and excited $B$ mesons. Typographic corrections.

The pp collision data collected in the LHC Run I provides a great opportunity for heavy flavour studies. The latest results on exotic states, heavy baryon and $B_c^+$ mesons are reviewed.

Lattice QCD results on hadrons with heavy quarks are briefly reviewed. The focus is on the spectrum of conventional and exotic hadrons. Structure of certain conventional hadrons is addressed as well.
