Using the lattice gauge field theory, we study the relation among the local chiral condensate, monopoles, and color magnetic fields in quantum chromodynamics (QCD). First, we investigate idealized Abelian gauge systems of 1) a static monopole-antimonopole pair and 2) a magnetic flux without monopoles, on a four-dimensional Euclidean lattice. In these systems, we calculate the local chiral condensate on quasi-massless fermions coupled to the Abelian gauge field, and find that ...

The confinement mechanism in the nonperturbative QCD is studied in terms of topological excitation as QCD-monopoles and instantons. In the 't Hooft abelian gauge, QCD is reduced into an abelian gauge theory with monopoles, and the QCD vacuum can be regarded as the dual superconductor with monopole condensation, which leads to the dual Higgs mechanism. The monopole-current theory extracted from QCD is found to have essential features of confinement. We find also close relation...

All colored particles including dynamical quarks and gluons are confined if the color confinement criterion proposed by Kugo and Ojima is satisfied. The criterion was obtained under the gauge fixing of the Lorenz type. However, it was pointed out that the Kugo-Ojima criterion breaks down for the Maximal Abelian gauge, which is quite strange in view of the fact that quark confinement has been verified according to the dual superconductivity caused by magnetic monopole condensa...

New results from lattice are presented, which demonstrate that monopoles condense in the vacuum of confined phase of QCD, which is thus a dual superconductor. Monopoles defined by different abelian projections appear to be physically equivalent.

The properties of the thermal Abelian color-magnetic monopoles in the maximally Abelian gauge are studied in the vicinity of the confinement-deconfinement phase transition in the lattice $SU(3)$ gluodynamics and lattice QCD. We compute the density and interaction parameters of the thermal monopoles. We find that the density of the thermal monopoles $\rho(T)$ jumps up near the transition temperature $T_c$. Additionally we present new results on the percolation transition in $S...

Three topics concerning infrared effective lattice QCD are discussed. (1)Perfect lattice action of infrared SU(3) QCD and perfect operators for the static potential are analytically given when we assume two-point monopole interactions alone. The assumption seems to be justified from numerical analyses of pure SU(3) QCD in maximally abelian gauge. (2)Gauge invariance of monopole dominance can be proved theoretically if the gauge invariance of abelian dominance is proved. The g...

If non-Abelian gauge fields in $SU(3)$ QCD have a line-singularity leading to non-commutativity with respect to successive partial-derivative operations, the non-Abelian Bianchi identity is violated. The violation as an operator is shown to be equivalent to violation of Abelian-like Bianchi identities. Then there appear eight Abelian-like conserved magnetic monopole currents of the Dirac type in $SU(3)$ QCD. Exact Abelian (but kinematical) symmetries appear in non-Abelian $SU...

We give an outline of a recent proof that the low-energy effective gauge theory exhibiting quark confinement due to magnetic monopole condensation can be derived from QCD without any specific assumption. We emphasize that the low-energy effective abelian gauge theories obtained here give the dual description of the same physics in the low-energy region. They show that the QCD vacuum is nothing but the dual (type II) superconductor.

To check the dual superconductor picture for the quark-confinement mechanism, we evaluate monopole dominance as well as Abelian dominance of quark confinement for both quark-antiquark and three-quark systems in SU(3) quenched lattice QCD in the maximally Abelian (MA) gauge. First, we examine Abelian dominance for the static $Q\bar Q$ system in lattice QCD with various spacing $a$ at $\beta$=5.8-6.4 and various size $L^3$x$L_t$. For large physical-volume lattices with $La \ge$...

We study abelian dominance for confinement in terms of the local gluon properties in the maximally abelian (MA) gauge, where the diagonal component of the gluon is maximized by the gauge transformation. We find microscopic abelian dominance on the link-variable for the whole region of $\beta$ in the lattice QCD in the MA gauge. The off-diagonal angle variable, which is not constrained by the MA-gauge fixing condition, tends to be random besides the residual gauge degrees of f...
