We study the so-called ``Kaluza-Klein regularization''. We calculate one-loop corrections to the Higgs mass due to Kaluza-Klein modes explicitly in a model with SUSY breaking mass splitting between bosonic and fermionic modes. We perform the proper time cutoff at $1/\Lambda^2$ and the KK level truncation at $\ell$. It is shown that the finite result is obtained as long as $\ell \gg R\Lambda$ for the compactification radius $R$.

We discuss the role that higher derivative operators play in field theory orbifold compactifications on S_1/Z_2 with local and non-local (Scherk-Schwarz) breaking of supersymmetry. Integrating out the bulk fields generates brane-localised higher derivative counterterms to the mass of the brane (or zero-mode of the bulk) scalar field, identified with the Higgs field in many realistic models. Both Yukawa and gauge interactions are considered and the one-loop results found can b...

We consider the brane-localized supersymmetry breaking in 5D compactified on $S^1/Z_2$. In case of a bulk gaugino with arbitrary brane masses for its even and odd modes, we find the mass spectrum and the wave functions of gaugino. We show that the gaugino masses at the distant brane are soft in the usual sense in the effective field theory with zero modes of bulk gauge fields and they are also extremely soft in view of the one-loop finite mass of a brane scalar in the KK regu...

We study spontaneous supersymmetry breaking induced by brane-localized dynamics in five-dimensional supergravity compactified on S^1/Z_2. We consider a model with gravity in the bulk and matter localized on tensionless branes at the orbifold fixed points. We assume that the brane dynamics give rise to effective brane superpotentials that trigger the supersymmetry breaking. We analyze in detail the super-Higgs effect. We compute the full spectrum and show that the symmetry bre...

We analyze the phenomenology of the Higgs sector in a 5D model compactified on an $S_1/Z_2$ orbifold with a compactification scale $M_C \sim {\mathcal O}(TeV)$ where supersymmetry breaking is localized on a brane at one of the fixed points. We show that the conventional MSSM Higgs boson mass bounds in 4D can be violated when we allow the gauge sector, Higgs and third family multiplets to live in the fifth extra dimension.

More than twenty years ago a paradigm emerged according to which a UV-insensitive Higgs mass $m_H$ and (more generally) a UV-insensitive Higgs effective potential $V_{1l}(\phi)$ are obtained from higher-dimensional theories with compact extra dimensions and Scherk-Schwarz supersymmetry breaking. Since then, these ideas have been applied to different models of phenomenological interest, including recent applications to the dark energy problem. A thorough analysis of the framew...

We calculate the 1-loop effective potential in a supersymmetric model in 5D with $S^1/(Z_2\times Z_2)$ orbifold compactification. The procedure of calculation consists of evaluating first the integrals over four-momenta using the dimensional regularization and then the sum over Kaluza-Klein modes using the zeta-regularization. We show that both fermionic and bosonic contributions are separately finite and argue that, supersymmetry is not necessary for the finiteness of the th...

A compactification of 11-dimensional supergravity with two (or more) walls is considered. The whole tower of massive Kaluza-Klein modes along the fifth dimension is taken into account. With the sources on the walls, an explicit composition in terms of Kaluza-Klein modes of massless gravitino (in the supersymmetry preserving case) and massive gravitino (in the supersymmetry breaking case) is obtained. The super-Higgs effect is discussed in detail.

Using a 5D N=1 supersymmetric toy-model compactified on S_1/(Z_2 x Z_2'), with a ``brane-localised'' superpotential, it is shown that higher (dimension) derivative operators are generated as one-loop counterterms to the (mass)^2 of the zero-mode scalar field, to ensure the quantum consistency of the model. Such operators are just a result of the compactification and integration of the bulk modes. They are relevant for the UV momentum scale dependence of the (mass)^2 of the ze...

We comment on the presence of power-like divergences in Kaluza-Klein theories with supersymmetry breaking a l\`a Scherk-Schwarz. By introducing a SUSY preserving regulator, we show that, in the context of a recently model proposed by Barbieri, Hall and Nomura, the Higgs mass is finite and unambiguously defined. The same result applies to similar models.
