Because of the problems arising from the fermion unification in the traditional Grand Unified Theory and the mass hierarchy between the 4-dimensional Planck scale and weak scale, we suggest the low energy gauge unification theory with low high-dimensional Planck scale. We discuss the non-supersymmetric SU(5) model on $M^4\times S^1/Z_2 \times S^1/Z_2$ and the supersymmetric SU(5) model on $M^4\times S^1/(Z_2\times Z_2') \times S^1/(Z_2\times Z_2')$. The SU(5) gauge symmetry i...

We construct a 5D SUSY SU(6) GUT on an $S^{(1)}/Z_2\tm Z_2'$ orbifold. The first stage of gauge symmetry breaking occurs through compactification and a specific selection of boundary conditions. Additional symmetries play a crucial role for the generation of $\mu $ and $B\mu $ terms of appropriate values: with a $SU(2)_{cus}$ custodial symmetry the Higgs doublets naturally emerge as massless pseudo-Goldstone bosons in the unbroken SUSY limit. After SUSY breaking they get mass...

We propose a mechanism of Higgsless gauge symmetry breaking with a large mass hierarchy. We consider a 5D gauge theory on an orbifold $S^1/Z_2$. The gauge symmetry is broken by orbifolding and also nontrivial boundary conditions at fixed points. All 4D modes which survive at low energies are found to be localized around fixed points. Supersymmetry plays an important role in our mechanism. The tree-level unitarity in our model is briefly discussed.

In supersymmetric grand unified theories (GUTs) based on S^1/(Z_2 x Z'_2) orbifold constructions in 5 dimensions, Standard Model (SM) matter and Higgs fields can be realized in terms of 5d hypermultiplets. These hypermultiplets can naturally have large bulk masses, leading to a localization of the zero modes at one of the two branes or to an exponential suppression of the mass of the lowest-lying non-zero mode. We demonstrate that these dynamical features allow for the constr...

We show that the recently constructed 5-dimensional supersymmetric $S^1/(Z_2\times Z_2')$ orbifold GUT models allow an appealing explanation of the observed hierarchical structure of the quark and lepton masses and mixing angles. Flavor hierarchies arise from the geometrical suppression of some couplings when fields propagate in different numbers of dimensions, or on different fixed branes. Restrictions arising from locality in the extra dimension allow interesting texture ze...

We investigate a 5D SU(6) grand gauge-Higgs unification model compactified on an orbifold S^1/Z_2. Ordinary quarks and leptons, together with right-handed neutrinos, are just accommodated into a minimal set of representations of the gauge group, without introducing any exotic states. The proton decay turns out to be forbidden at least at the tree level. We also find a correct electroweak symmetry breaking SU(2)_L \times U(1)_Y \to U(1)_{em} is easily realized by introducing s...

In this talk, we discuss an attempt to construct a realistic model of the grand gauge-Higgs unification. We investigate a 5D SU(6) grand gauge-Higgs unification model compactified on an orbifold S^1/Z_2. Ordinary quarks and leptons, together with right-handed neutrinos, are just accommodated into a minimal set of representations of the gauge group, without introducing any exotic states in the same representations. The proton decay turns out to be forbidden at least at the tre...

Grand gauge-Higgs unification of five dimensional SU(6) gauge theory on an orbifold $S^1/Z_2$ with localized gauge kinetic terms is discussed. The Standard model (SM) fermions on the boundaries and some massive bulk fermions coupling to the SM fermions on the boundary are introduced. Taking the power-law running contributions from the bulk fields into account, perturbative gauge coupling unification is shown to be realized at around $10^{14}$ GeV, which is a few order smaller...

A complete 5-dimensional SU(5) unified theory is constructed which, on compactification on the orbifold with two different Z_2's (Z_2 and Z_2'), yields the minimal supersymmetric standard model. The orbifold accomplishes SU(5) gauge symmetry breaking, doublet-triplet splitting, and a vanishing of proton decay from operators of dimension 5. Until 4d supersymmetry is broken, all proton decay from dimension 4 and dimension 5 operators is forced to vanish by an exact U(1)_R symme...

We study the generation of neutrino masses in the $SU(3)_W$ electroweak unified theory in $M_4\times S_1/(Z_2\times Z'_2)$ spacetime. By appropriate orbifolding, the bulk symmetry $SU(3)_W$ is broken into $SU(2)_L \times U(1)_Y$ at one of the fixed points, where the quarks reside. The leptons form $SU(3)_W$ triplets, localized at the other symmetric fixed point. The fermion masses arise from the bulk Higgs sector containing a triplet and an anti-sextet. We construct neutrino ...
