Lattice calculations of the mass of the strange quark are reviewed. In particular, the reason for the spread in values is explained with emphasis on the effects that recently implemented improvements have had on the lattice determinations.

After a brief introduction to lattice QCD, I summarize the results for the light quark masses and the bag parameters $B_K$, $B_6^{1/2}$, and $B_8^{3/2}$. The implications of these results for the standard model estimates of CP violation parameters $\epsilon$ and $\epsilon'/\epsilon$ are also discussed.

The standard procedure to determine (analytically) the values of the quark masses is to relate QCD two-point functions to experimental data in the framework of QCD sum rules. We illustrate the current status of heavy quark physics on the lattice. Special emphasis is paid to the question of systematic uncertainties and to the connection of lattice computations to continuum physics. Latest results are presented and discussed with respect to the progress in methods, statistical accuracy and reliability.

In this note we show an empirical formula of quark masses, which is found by implementing a least squares fit. In this formula the measured QCD coupling is almost a "best fitting coupling".

I give a short historical and a critical review of the determinations of light quark masses from QCD at dawn of the next millennium. QCD spectral sum rules combined with ChPT give, to order $\alpha_s^3$, the world average for the running masses: $\bar{m}_s$(2 GeV)= $(118.9\pm 12.2)$ MeV, $\bar{m}_d(2~{GeV})=(6.3\pm 0.8)$ MeV, $\bar{m}_u(2~{GeV})=(3.5\pm 0.4)$ MeV and the corresponding values of the invariant masses given in Eq. 24. In this talk I review some recent results from lattice QCD calculations which aim to a more accurate determination of the Standard Model parameters in the quark sector. After a review of our current knowledge of these parameters, I present lattice results for the strange, charm and bottom quark masses, the CKM matrix element $V_{ub}$ and the complex CKM phase $\delta$, which induces CP violation effects in the Standard Model with three generations.
