A five dimensional brane cosmology with non-minimally coupled scalar field to gravity has been considered in a Jordan-Brans-Dicke frame. We derive an effective four dimensional field equations on a 3+1 dimensional brane where the fifth dimension has been assumed to have an orbifold symmetry. We have noticed that the evolution equation for the matter component stuck to the brane is non-trivially coupled to the scalar field living on the brane and the bulk. Finally we discuss s...

In this work we show that universal gauge vector fields can be localized on the recently proposed 5D thick tachyonic braneworld which involves a de Sitter cosmological background induced on the 3-brane. Namely, by performing a suitable decomposition of the vector field, the resulting 4D effective action corresponds to a massive gauge field, while the profile along the extra dimension obeys a Schroedinger-like equation with a Poeschl-Teller potential. It turns out that the mas...

This proceedings is based on a talk given at the APS DPF 2013 on an alternative 5-dimensional brane world model which is related to but has some physically distinct features from the Randall-Sundrum brane world model. The spin dependent localization of 5D fields for the alternative model are different and in some ways superior to the original Randall- Sundrum Model. The alternative model also exhibits a cutoff in the lo-calization of massive scalar fields not seen in the Rand...

The most remarkable and interesting feature of brane world scenario is the use of bulk's curvature to localize gravity on the brane, albeit with fine tuning of the brane and bulk parameters. For FRW expanding universe on the brane, it is a moving hypersurface in Schwarzschild anti de Sitter bulk spacetime. We show that zero mass gravitons have bound state on the brane for suitable values of brane and bulk parameters. There occur various cases giving rise to different cosmolog...

We expand on the braneworld-black hole de Sitter model introduced in \cite{Rasulian} which is a proposal for constructing an effective de Sitter spacetime with no explicit dependence on brane tension or bulk cosmological constant. In this model the 4D de Sitter space emerges on a brane near the horizon of a 5D black hole. We study the effective gravity on the brane non-perturbatively, with an approximate Z2 symmetry assumption, up to a conformal factor, and find that the evol...

We consider a quantization of scalar perturbations about a de Sitter brane in a 5-dimensional anti-de Sitter (AdS) bulk spacetime. We first derive the second order action for a master variable $\Omega$ for 5-dimensional gravitational perturbations. For a vacuum brane, there is a continuum of normalizable Kaluza-Klein (KK) modes with $m>3H/2$. There is also a light radion mode with $m=\sqrt{2}H$ which satisfies the junction conditions for two branes, but is non-normalizable fo...

We study the braneworld theory constructed by multi scalar fields. The model contains a smooth and infinitely large extra dimension, allowing the background fields propagating in it. We give a de Sitter solution for the four-dimensional cosmology as a good approximation to the early universe inflation. We show that the graviton has a localizable massless mode, and a series of continuous massive modes, separated by a mass gap. There could be a normalizable massive mode, depend...

We review a viable alternative scenario of the inflationary universe in the context of the Randall-Sundrum (RS) braneworld. In this scenario, the dynamics of a 5-dimensional scalar field, which we call a bulk scalar field, plays the central role. Focusing on the second (single-brane) RS model, we discuss braneworld inflation driven by a bulk scalar field without introducing an inflaton on the brane. As a toy model, for the bulk scalar field, we consider a minimally coupled ma...

Following a previous work [Gen. Relativ. Gravit. 43 (2011)], we further study the behavior of a real scalar field in a hidden brane in a configuration of two branes embedded in a five dimensional bulk. We find an expression for the equation of state for this scalar field in the visible brane in terms of the fields of the hidden one. Additionally, we investigated the perturbations produced by this scalar field in the visible brane with the aim to study their dynamical properti...

We study the dynamics of a scalar field in the brane cosmology. We assume that a scalar field is confined in our 4-dimensional world. As for the potential of the scalar field, we discuss three typical models: (1) a power-law potential, (2) an inverse-power-law potential, and (3) an exponential potential. We show that the behavior of the scalar field is very different from a conventional cosmology when the energy density square term is dominated.
