We consider intersecting brane configurations realizing N=2 supersymmetric gauge theories broken to N=1 by multitrace superpotentials, and softly to N=0. We analyze, in the framework of M5-brane wrapping a curve, the supersymmetric vacua and the analogs of spontaneous supersymmetry breaking and soft supersymmetry breaking in gauge theories. We show that the M5-brane does not exhibit the analog of metastable spontaneous supersymmetry breaking, and does not have non-holomorphic...

We present an ansatz for black 2-branes in five dimensional N=2 supergravity theory that carry magnetic charge with respect to general hypermultiplet scalars. We find explicit solutions in certain special cases and examine the constraints on the general case. These branes may be thought of as arising from M-branes by wrapping eleven dimensional supergravity over special Lagrangian calibrated cycles of a Calabi-Yau 3-fold.

We study M5-branes wrapped on a multi-centred Taub-NUT space. Reducing to String Theory on the circle fibration leads to D4-branes intersecting with D6-branes. D-braneology shows that there are additional charged chiral fermions from the open strings which stretch between the D4-branes and D6-branes. From the M-theory point of view the appearance of these charged states is mysterious as the M5-branes are wrapped on a smooth manifold. In this paper we show how these states ari...

We study CFT data of 3-dimensional superconformal field theories (SCFTs) arising from wrapped two M5-branes on closed hyperbolic 3-manifolds. Via so-called 3d/3d correspondence, central charges of these SCFTs are related to a $SL(2)$ Chern-Simons (CS) invariant on the 3-manifolds. We give a rigorous definition of the invariant in terms of resurgence theory and a state-integral model for the complex CS theory. We numerically evaluate the central charges for several closed 3-ma...

As a step towards the classification of supergravity backgrounds with flux, we study the (back-reacted) geometry created by a BPS M2-brane when it wraps a cycle in a Calabi-Yau manifold. If it is to preserve supersymmetry, the membrane background must obey certain conditions. These conditions are expressed as geometrical constraints on differential forms and as such, can be interpreted as calibrations. Knowing the complete set of calibrations is the same as satisfying all con...

We study M-theory fivebranes wrapped on Special Lagrangian submanifolds ($\S_n$) in Calabi-Yau three- and fourfolds. When the M5 wraps a four-cycle, the resulting theory is a two-dimensional domain wall embedded in three-dimensional bulk with four supercharges. The theory on the wall is specified in terms of the geometry of the CY manifold and the cycle $\S_4$. It is chiral and anomalous, however the presence of a three-dimensional gravitational Chern-Simons terms with a coef...

We argue that MQCD admits intersecting domain walls that are realized as Cayley calibrations of the MQCD M5-brane. We discuss various dual realizations and comment on how branes can realise domain walls in N=1 supersymmetric theories in D=3.

We consider $d=2$, $\mathcal{N}=(0,2)$ SCFTs that can arise from M5-branes wrapping four-dimensional, complex, toric manifolds and orbifolds. We use equivariant localization to compute the off-shell central charge of the dual supergravity solutions, obtaining a result which can be written as a sum of gravitational blocks and precisely agrees with a field theory computation using anomaly polynomials and $c$-extremization.

Employing the method applied to construct $AdS_5$ solutions from M5-branes recently by Bah, Bonetti, Minasian and Nardoni, we construct supersymmetric $AdS_3$ solutions from D3-branes and M5-branes wrapped on a disc with non-trivial holonomies at the boundary. In five-dimensional $U(1)^3$-gauged $\mathcal{N}=2$ supergravity, we find $\mathcal{N}=(2,2)$ and $\mathcal{N}=(4,4)$ supersymmetric $AdS_3$ solutions. We uplift the solutions to type IIB supergravity and obtain D3-bran...

In this talk we will review the construction of M2-brane SCFT's highlighting some novelties and the role of 3-algebras. Parts of our discussion will closely follow parts of arXiv:1203.3546. Next we will discuss M5-branes: the basics, the obstacles as well as various attempts to construct the associated SCFT and potential relations between M2-branes and M5-branes.
