We describe a few unexpected features of de Sitter Quantum Field Theory that have no Minkowskian counterparts. These phenomena show that even when the cosmological constant is tiny a Minkowskian way of fast thinking about de Sitter can lead to mistakes and that de Sitter QFT is essentially different from standard relativistic (Minkowskian) QFT.

Before we ask what is the theory of quantum gravity, it is a legitimate quest to formulate a robust quantum field theory in curved spacetime (QFTCS). Several conceptual problems have raised concerns over several decades, mainly because no S-matrix formulation is yet found in QFTCS. We argue that the institutional thinking of fixing a spacetime geometry, observers, light-cones and then quantizing the fields in that "intuitively", or "classically", fixed spacetime is the origin...

In the background of a flat homogeneous and isotropic space-time, we consider a scenario of the universe driven by the gravitationally induced `adiabatic' particle production with constant creation rate. We have shown that this universe attains a big bang singularity in the past and at late-time it asymptotically becomes de Sitter. To clarify this model universe, we perform a dynamical analysis and found that the universe attains a thermodynamic equilibrium in this late de Si...

Creation of thermal distribution of particles by a black hole is independent of the detail of gravitational collapse, making the construction of the eternal horizons suffice to address the problem in asymptotically flat spacetimes. For eternal de Sitter black holes however, earlier studies have shown the existence of both thermal and non-thermal particle creation, originating from the non-trivial causal structure of these spacetimes. Keeping this in mind we consider this prob...

We present a short and novel derivation of the Schwinger mechanism for particle pair production in $1+1$ dimensional de Sitter and Anti de Sitter spacetimes. We work directly in the flat embedding space and derive the pair production rates in these spacetimes via instanton methods. The derivation is manifestly coordinate independent, and also lends support to the possible deep connection between two conceptually disparate quantum phenomena - Schwinger effect and the Davies-Un...

de Sitter symmetry on quantum level implies that operators describing a given system satisfy commutation relations of the de Sitter algebra. This approach gives a new perspective on fundamental notions of quantum theory. We discuss applications of the approach to the cosmological constant problem, gravity, and particle theory.

We present a Fock quantization with unitary dynamics for the massless scalar field in de Sitter spacetime.

We argue that the flat spacetime with inexact quantum mechanics in it is dual to the de Sitter spacetime with exact quantum mechanics in it, and the positive cosmological constant of this de Sitter spacetime is in the second order of the degree of the violation of the bulk quantum mechanics in the flat spacetime. The flat spacetime is holographic and has a dual time-contracted boundary conformal field theory with two redefined central charges at null infinity. The vanishing s...

We revisit the principal arguments for interpreting the free quantum fields on anti-de Sitter or de Sitter spacetimes of any dimensions as oscillators or respectively anti-oscillators. In addition, we point out that there exists a chart on the de Sitter background where the free Dirac field becomes a genuine anti-oscillator in the non-relativistic limit in the sense of special relativity.

This work applies the formalism developed in our earlier paper to de Sitter space. After exactly solving the relevant Heisenberg equations of motion we give a detailed discussion of the subtleties associated with defining physical states and the emergence of the classical theory. This computation provides the striking result that quantum corrections to this long wavelength limit of gravity eliminate the problem of the big crunch. We also show that the same corrections lead to...
