In this paper we study the small time asymptotics for the heat kernel on a sub-Riemannian manifold, using a perturbative approach. We then explicitly compute, in the case of a 3D contact structure, the first two coefficients of the small time asymptotics expansion of the heat kernel on the diagonal, expressing them in terms of the two basic functional invariants $\chi$ and $\kappa$ defined on a 3D contact structure.

The heat kernel or Bargmann-Segal transform on a noncompact Riemannian symmetric space X=G/K maps a square integrable function on X to a holomorphic function on the complex crown. In this article we determine the range of this transform.

Let X=G/K be a Riemannian symmetric space of the noncompact type. We give a short exposition of the representation theory related to X, and discuss its holomorphic extension to the complex crown, a G-invariant subdomain in the complexified symmetric space X_\C=G_\C/K_\C. Applications to the heat transform and the Radon transform for X are given.

In this paper we extend our previous results on wrapping Brownian motion and heat kernels onto compact Lie groups to various symmetric spaces, where a global generalisation of Rouvi\`ere's formula and the $e$-function are considered. Additionally, we extend some of our results to complex Lie groups, and certain non-compact symmetric spaces.

Let $G$ be a compact connected Lie group equipped with a bi-invariant metric. We calculate the asymptotic expansion of the heat kernel of the laplacian on $G$ and the heat trace using Lie algebra methods. The Duflo isomorphism plays a key role.

We review the status of covariant methods in quantum field theory and quantum gravity, in particular, some recent progress in the calculation of the effective action via the heat kernel method. We study the heat kernel associated with an elliptic second-order partial differential operator of Laplace type acting on smooth sections of a vector bundle over a Riemannian manifold without boundary. We develop a manifestly covariant method for computation of the heat kernel asymptot...

The paper is devoted to a local heat kernel, which is a special part of the standard heat kernel. Locality means that all considerations are produced in an open convex set of a smooth Riemannian manifold. We study such properties and concepts as uniqueness, a symmetry of the Seeley-DeWitt coefficients, extension on the whole manifold, a family of special functions, and the late-time asymptotics with the use of the path integral formulation.

We explicitly evaluate the heat kernel for the Laplacian of arbitrary spin tensor fields on the thermal quotient of (Euclidean) $AdS_N$ for $N\geq 3$ using the group theoretic techniques employed for $AdS_3$ in arXiv:0911.5085. Our approach is general and can be used, in principle, for other quotients as well as other symmetric spaces.

We derive estimates of the derivatives of the heat kernel on noncompact symmetric spaces and on locally symmetric spaces. Applying these estimates we study the $L^{p}$-boundedness of Littlewood-Paley-Stein operators and the Laplacian of the heat operator on a wide class of locally symmetric spaces.

We extend the classical theory of isothermic surfaces in conformal 3-space, due to Bour, Christoffel, Darboux, Bianchi and others, to the more general context of submanifolds of symmetric $R$-spaces with essentially no loss of integrable structure.
