This paper, a continuation of ``Towards a Mori theory on compact K\"ahler manifolds, 1'' (written with F. Campana), introduces a non-algebraic analogue to Mori theory in dimension 3.

An inductive approach to classifying toric Fano varieties is given. As an application of this technique, we present a classification of the toric Fano threefolds with at worst canonical singularities. Up to isomorphism, there are 674,688 such varieties.

This work is part of the Graded Ring Database project [GRDB], and is a sequel to [Altinok's 1998 PhD thesis] and [Altinok, Brown and Reid, Fano 3-folds, K3 surfaces and graded rings, in SISTAG (Singapore, 2001), Contemp. Math. 314, 2002, pp. 25-53]. We introduce a strategy based on Kustin-Miller unprojection that constructs many hundreds of Gorenstein codimension 4 ideals with 9x16 resolutions (that is, 9 equations and 16 first syzygies). Our two basic games are called Tom an...

In this article, we study the K-moduli space of Fano threefolds obtained by blowing up $\mathbb{P}^3$ along $(2,3)$-complete intersection curves. This K-moduli space is a two-step birational modification of the GIT moduli space of $(3,3)$-curves on $\mathbb{P}^1 \times \mathbb{P}^1$. As an application, we show that our K-moduli space appears as one model of the Hassett--Keel program for $\overline{M}_4$. In particular, we classify all K-(semi/poly)stable members in this defor...

Cluster algebras give rise to a class of Gorenstein rings which enjoy a large amount of symmetry. Concentrating on the rank 2 cases, we show how cluster varieties can be used to construct many interesting projective algebraic varieties. Our main application is then to construct hundreds of families of Fano 3-folds in codimensions 4 and 5. In particular, for Fano 3-folds in codimension 4 we construct at least one family for 187 of the 206 possible Hilbert polynomials contained...

We complete the analysis on the birational rigidity of quasismooth Fano 3-fold deformation families appearing in the Graded Ring Database as a complete intersection. When such a deformation family $X$ has Fano index at least 2 and is minimally embedded in a weighted projective space in codimension 2, we determine which cyclic quotient singularity is a maximal centre. If a cyclic quotient singularity is a maximal centre, we construct a Sarkisov link to a non-isomorphic Mori fi...

In this paper we consider Q-Fano 3-fold weighted complete intersections of codimension 2 in the 85 families listed in the Iano-Fletcher's list and determine which cycle is a maximal center or not. For each maximal center, we construct either a birational involution which untwists the maximal singularity or a Sarkisov link centered at the cycle to an another explicitly described Mori fiber space. As a consequence, 19 families are proved to be birationally rigid and the remaini...

We construct several new families of Fano varieties of K3 type. We give a geometrical explanation of the K3 structure and we link some of them to projective families of irreducible holomorphic symplectic manifolds.

We study the geography and birational geometry of 3-fold conic bundles over P^2 and cubic del Pezzo fibrations over P^1. We discuss many explicit examples and raise several open questions. This paper was submitted to the proceedings of the "Fano conference" held in Torino in October 2002.

Conjecturally, Fano varieties of K3 type admit a multiplicative Chow-K\"unneth decomposition, in the sense of Shen-Vial. We prove this for many of the families of Fano varieties of K3 type constructed by Fatighenti-Mongardi. This has interesting consequences for the Chow ring of these varieties.
