The main purpose of this survey is to introduce an inexperienced reader to additive prime number theory and some related branches of analytic number theory. We state the main problems in the field, sketch their history and the basic machinery used to study them, and try to give a representative sample of the directions of current research.

Let $\widetilde{\mathbb{Q}_p}$ be the field of $p$-adic numbers in the language of rings. In this paper we consider the theory of $\widetilde{\mathbb{Q}_p}$ expanded by two predicates interpreted by multiplicative subgroups $\alpha^\mathbb{Z}$ and $\beta^\mathbb{Z}$ where $\alpha, \beta\in\mathbb{N}$ are multiplicatively independent. We show that the theory of this structure interprets Peano arithmetic if $\alpha$ and $\beta$ have positive $p$-adic valuation. If either $\alph...

In this work, we develop systematically the ``Dirichlet Hopf algebra of arithmetics'' by dualizing addition and multiplication maps. We study the additive and multiplicative antipodal convolutions which fail to give rise to Hopf algebra structures, obeying only a weakened (multiplicative) homomorphism axiom. The consequences of the weakened structure, called a Hopf gebra, e.g. on cohomology are explored. This features multiplicativity versus complete multiplicativity of numbe...

We introduce an addition law for the usual quantum matrices $A(R)$ by means of a coaddition $\underline{\Delta} t=t\otimes 1+1\otimes t$. It supplements the usual comultiplication $\Delta t=t\otimes t$ and together they obey a codistributivity condition. The coaddition does not form a usual Hopf algebra but a braided one. The same remarks apply for rectangular $m\times n$ quantum matrices. As an application, we construct left-invariant vector fields on $A(R)$ and other quantu...

We define a $q$-deformation of the classical ring of integer-valued polynomials which we call the ring of quantum integer-valued polynomials. We show that this ring has a remarkable combinatorial structure and enjoys many positivity properties: for instance, the structure constants for this ring with respect to its basis of $q$-binomial coefficient polynomials belong to $\mathbb{N}[q]$. We then classify all maps from this ring into a field, extending a known classification in...

Recently, additive combinatorics has blossomed into a vibrant area in mathematical sciences. But it seems to be a difficult area to define - perhaps because of a blend of ideas and techniques from several seemingly unrelated contexts which are used there. One might say that additive combinatorics is a branch of mathematics concerning the study of combinatorial properties of algebraic objects, for instance, Abelian groups, rings, or fields. This emerging field has seen tremend...

This paper represents one approach to making explicit some of the assumptions and conditions implied in the widespread representation of numbers by composite quantum systems. Any nonempty set and associated operations is a set of natural numbers or a model of arithmetic if the set and operations satisfy the axioms of number theory or arithmetic. This work is limited to k-ary representations of length L and to the axioms for arithmetic modulo k^{L}. A model of the axioms is de...

In this note we, first, recall that the sets of all representatives of some special ordinary residue classes become $\left( m,n\right) $-rings. Second, we introduce a possible $p$-adic analog of the residue class modulo a $p$-adic integer. Then, we find the relations which determine, when the representatives form a $\left( m,n\right) $-ring. At the very short spacetime scales such rings could lead to new symmetries of modern particle models.

A very elementary introduction to quantum algebras is presented and a few examples of their physical applications are mentioned.
