In this paper, we prove the existence and uniqueness theorem for parabolic conical metrics on Riemann surfaces in the situation of generalized real angles, positive, zero and negative, by complex analysis, and give an example of this theorem to clarify concrete expressions of parabolic metrics on the two-sphere and generalize the well-known Schwarz-Christoffel formula.

We give a description of complex geodesics and we study the structure of stationary discs in some non-convex domains for which complex geodesics are not unique.

In this article, we study holomorphic isometric embeddings between bounded symmetric domains. In particular, we show the total geodesy of any holomorphic isometric embedding between reducible bounded symmetric domains with the same rank.

We study completeness properties of reparametrization invariant Sobolev metrics of order $n\ge 2$ on the space of manifold valued open and closed immersed curves. In particular, for several important cases of metrics, we show that Sobolev immersions are metrically and geodesically complete (thus the geodesic equation is globally well-posed). These results were previously known only for closed curves with values in Euclidean space. For the class of constant coefficient Sobolev...

In this paper we study the following "slice rigidity property": given two Kobayashi complete hyperbolic manifolds $M, N$ and a collection of complex geodesics $\mathcal F$ of $M$, when is it true that every holomorphic map $F:M\to N$ which maps isometrically every complex geodesic of $\mathcal F$ onto a complex geodesic of $N$ is a biholomorphism? Among other things, we prove that this is the case if $M, N$ are smooth bounded strictly (linearly) convex domains, every element ...

We introduce a compactification of the space of simple positive divisors on a Riemann surface, as well as a compactification of the universal family of punctured surfaces above this space. These are real manifolds with corners. We then study the space of constant curvature metrics on this Riemann surface with prescribed conical singularities at these divisors. Our interest here is in the local deformation for these metrics, and in particular the behavior as conic points coale...

Given a metrically complete Riemannian manifold $(M,g)$ with smooth nonempty boundary and assuming that one of its curvatures is subject to a certain bound, we address the problem of whether it is possibile to realize $(M,g)$ as a domain inside a geodesically complete Riemannian manifold $(M',g')$ without boundary, by preserving the same curvature bounds. In this direction we provide three kind of results: (1) a general existence theorem showing that it is always possible to ...

This paper studies Riemannian manifolds of the form $M \setminus S$, where $M^4$ is a complete four dimensional Riemannian manifold with finite volume whose metric is modeled on the complex hyperbolic plane $\mathbb{C} \mathbb{H}^2$, and $S$ is a compact totally geodesic codimension two submanifold whose induced Riemannian metric is modeled on the real hyperbolic plane $\mathbb{H}^2$. In this paper we write the metric on $\mathbb{C} \mathbb{H}^2$ in polar coordinates about $S...

We give a description of the completion of the manifold of all smooth Riemannian metrics on a fixed smooth, closed, finite-dimensional, orientable manifold with respect to a natural metric called the $L^2$ metric. The primary motivation for studying this problem comes from Teichmueller theory, where similar considerations lead to a completion of the well-known Weil-Petersson metric. We give an application of the main theorem to the completions of Teichmueller space with respe...
