This paper demonstrates that the homogeneous coordinate ring of the Grassmannian $\Bbb{G}(k,n)$ is a {\it cluster algebra of geometric type} - as defined by S. Fomin and A. Zelevinsky. Grassmannians having {\it finite cluster type} are classified and the associated cluster variables are studied in connection with the geometry of configurations of points in $\Bbb{R}\Bbb{P}^2$.

Considered as commutative algebras, cluster algebras can be very unpleasant objects. However, the first author introduced a condition known as "local acyclicity" which implies that cluster algebras behave reasonably. One of the earliest and most fundamental examples of a cluster algebra is the homogenous coordinate ring of the Grassmannian. We show that the Grassmannian is locally acyclic. Morally, we are in fact showing the stronger result that all positroid varieties are lo...

We exhibit quantum cluster algebra structures on quantum Grassmannians $K_q[Gr(2,n)]$ and their quantum Schubert cells, as well as on $K_q[Gr(3,6)]$, $K_q[Gr(3,7)]$ and $K_q[Gr(3,8)]$. These cases are precisely those where the quantum cluster algebra is of finite type and the structures we describe quantize those found by Scott for the classical situation.

We apply the new theory of cluster algebras of Fomin and Zelevinsky to study some combinatorial problems arising in Lie theory. This is joint work with Geiss and Schr\"oer (3, 4, 5, 6), and with Hernandez (8, 9).

We describe a ring whose category of Cohen-Macaulay modules provides an additive categorification of the cluster algebra structure on the homogeneous coordinate ring of the Grassmannian of k-planes in n-space. More precisely, there is a cluster character defined on the category which maps the rigid indecomposable objects to the cluster variables and the maximal rigid objects to clusters. This is proved by showing that the quotient of this category by a single projective-injec...

In this article we explain how the coordinate ring of each (open) Schubert variety in the Grassmannian can be identified with a cluster algebra, whose combinatorial structure is encoded using (target labelings of) Postnikov's plabic graphs. This result generalizes a theorem of Scott (Scott 2006) for the Grassmannian, and proves a folklore conjecture for Schubert varieties that has been believed by experts since (Scott 2006), though the statement was not formally written down ...

We prove a conjecture of Geiss, Leclerc and Schr\"{o}er, producing cluster algebra structures on multi-homogeneous coordinate ring of partial flag varieties, for the case $G_2$. As a consequence we sharpen the known fact that coordinate ring of the double Bruhat cell $G^{e,w_0}$ is an upper cluster algebra, by proving that it is a cluster algebra.

The category of Cohen-Macaulay modules of an algebra $B_{k,n}$ is used [JKS16] to give an additive categorification of the cluster algebra structure on the homogeneous coordinate ring of the Grassmannian of $k$-planes in $n$-space. In this paper, we find canonical Auslander--Reiten sequences and study the Auslander--Reiten translation periodicity for this category. Furthermore, we give an explicit construction of Cohen-Macaulay modules of arbitrary rank. We then use our resul...

We define an action of the extended affine d-strand braid group on the open positroid stratum in the Grassmannian Gr(k,n), for d the greatest common divisor of k and n. The action is by quasi-automorphisms of the cluster structure on the Grassmannian, determining a homomorphism from the extended affine braid group to the cluster modular group. We also define a quasi-isomorphism between the Grassmannian Gr(k,rk) and the Fock-Goncharov configuration space of 2r-tuples of affine...

This paper continues the study of cluster algebras initiated in math.RT/0104151. Its main result is the complete classification of the cluster algebras of finite type, i.e., those with finitely many clusters. This classification turns out to be identical to the Cartan-Killing classification of semisimple Lie algebras and finite root systems, which is intriguing since in most cases, the symmetry exhibited by the Cartan-Killing type of a cluster algebra is not at all apparent f...

The positive Grassmannian $Gr_{k,n}^{\geq 0}$ is the subset of the real Grassmannian where all Pl\"ucker coordinates are nonnegative. It has a beautiful combinatorial structure as well as connections to statistical physics, integrable systems, and scattering amplitudes. The amplituhedron $\mathcal{A}_{n,k,m}(Z)$ is the image of the positive Grassmannian $Gr_{k,n}^{\geq 0}$ under a positive linear map $\mathbb{R}^n \to \mathbb{R}^{k+m}$. We will explain how ideas from oriented...
