In the reduced free product of C*-algebras (A,phi)=(A_1,phi_1)*(A_2,phi_2), A is shown to be purely infinite and simple under the hypothesis that A_1 is the crossed product of a C*-algebra by a discrete infinite group, phi_1 is well behaved with respect to this crossed product and A_2 is not one dimensional.

We describe the structure of the irreducible representations of crossed products of unital C*-algebras by actions of finite groups in terms of irreducible representations of the C*-algebras on which the groups act. We then apply this description to derive a characterization of irreducible representations of crossed-products by finite cyclic groups in terms of representations of the C*-algebra and its fixed point subalgebra. These results are applied to crossed-products by the...

This paper is motivated primarily by the question of when the maximal and reduced crossed products of a $G$-$C^*$-algebra agree (particularly inspired by results of Matsumura and Suzuki), and the relationships with various notions of amenability and injectivity. We give new connections between these notions. Key tools in this include the natural equivariant analogues of injectivity, and of Lance's weak expectation property: we also give complete characterizations of these equ...

We extend applications of Furstenberg boundary theory to the study of $C^*$-algebras associated to minimal actions $\Gamma\!\curvearrowright\! X$ of discrete groups $\Gamma$ on locally compact spaces $X$. We introduce boundary maps on $(\Gamma,X)$-$C^*$-algebras and investigate their applications in this context. Among other results, we completely determine when $C^*$-algebras generated by covariant representations arising from stabilizer subgroups are simple. We also charact...

We describe representations of groupoid C*-algebras on Hilbert modules over arbitrary C*-algebras by a universal property. For Hilbert space representations, our universal property is equivalent to Renault's Integration-Disintegration Theorem. For a locally compact group, it is related to the automatic continuity of measurable group representations. It implies known descriptions of groupoid C*-algebras as crossed products for \'etale groupoids and transformation groupoids of ...

This paper studies injective envelopes of groupoid dynamical systems and the corresponding boundaries. Analogue to the group case, we associate a bundle of compact Hausdorff spaces to any (discrete) groupoid (the Hamana boundary of the groupoid). We study bundles of compact topological spaces equipped with an action of a groupoid. We show that any groupoid has a minimal boundary (the Furstenberg boundary of the groupoid). We prove that the Hamana and Furstenberg boundaries ar...

Radial representations of finitely generated free groups are studied. The associated C*-algebra is located between the reduced and full group C*-algebras and its primitive ideal space is described concretely as a topological space.

A crossed product functor is said to be injective if it takes injective morphisms to injective morphisms. In this paper we show that every locally compact group $G$ admits a maximal injective crossed product $A\mapsto A\rtimes_{\inj}G$. Moreover, we give an explicit construction of this functor that depends only on the maximal crossed product and the existence of $G$-injective $C^*$-algebras; this is a sort of a `dual' result to the construction of the minimal exact crossed p...

We survey the results required to pass between full and reduced coactions of locally compact groups on C*-algebras, which say, roughly speaking, that one can always do so without changing the crossed-product C*-algebra. Wherever possible we use definitions and constructions that are well-documented and accessible to non-experts, and otherwise we provide full details. We then give a series of applications to illustrate the use of these techniques. We obtain in particular a new...

In this paper, we define the notions of full pro-$C^{*}$-crossed product, respectively reduced pro-$C^{*}$-crossed product, of a pro-$C^{*}$-algebra $A[\tau_{\Gamma}] $ by a strong bounded action $\alpha$ of a locally compact group $G$ and investigate some their properties.
