The special uniformity of zeta functions claims that pure non-abelian zeta functions coincide with group zeta functions associated to the special linear groups. Naturally associated are three aspects, namely, the analytic, arithmetic, and geometric aspects. In the first paper of this series, we expose intrinsic geometric structures of our zetas by counting semi-stable bundles on curves defined over finite fields in terms of their automorphism groups and global sections. We sh...

In this paper we will define a qc fundamental group for an arithmetic scheme by quasi-galois closed covers. Then we will give a computation for such a group and will prove that the etale fundamental group of an arithmetic scheme is a normal subgroup in our qc fundamental group, which make up the main theorem of the paper. Hence, our group gives us a prior estimate of the etale fundamental group. The quotient group reflects the topological properties of the scheme.

In this article, we present some of the properties of the $L^2$-Alexander invariant of a knot defined by Li and Zhang, some of which are similar to those of the classical Alexander polynomial. Notably we prove that the $L^2$-Alexander invariant detects the trivial knot.

We survey classical material around Lefschetz theorems for fundamental groups, and show the relation to parts of Deligne's program in Weil II. The notes are based on some aspects of the material for the Santal\'o lectures at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid (October 2015) and the Rademacher lectures at the University of Pennsylvania (February 2016). They appear in Revista Matem\'atica Complutense.

This survey is about Galois theory of curves in characteristic p, a topic which has inspired major research in algebraic geometry and number theory and which contains many open questions. We illustrate important phenomena which occur for covers of curves in characteristic p. We explain key results on the structure of fundamental groups. We end by describing areas of active research and giving two new results about the genus and p-rank of certain covers of the affine line.

We give an extension of Fox's formula of the Alexander polynomial for double branched covers over the three-sphere. Our formula provides the Reidemeister torsion of a double branched cover along a knot for a non-trivial one dimensional representation by the product of two factors derived from the knot group. One of the factors is determined by the twisted Alexander polynomial and the other is determined by a rational function on the character variety. As an application, we sh...

Let X and Y be curves over a finite field. In this article we explore methods to determine whether there is a rational map from Y to X by considering L-functions of certain covers of X and Y and propose a specific family of covers to address the special case of determining when X and Y are isomorphic. We also discuss an application to factoring polynomials over finite fields.

In this paper, we give concrete descriptions of leafwise cohomology groups and show the regularized determinant expression of the dynamical zeta function for fiber bundles over $S^{1}$. As applications, we show a functional equation and some formulas for special values of the dynamical zeta function.

This paper generalizes for non-abelian theta functions a number of formulae valid for theta functions of Jacobian varieties. The addition formula, the relation with the Szego kernel and with the multicomponent KP hierarchy and the behavior under cyclic coverings are given.

In this work we describe a new invariant of virtual knots. We show that this transcendental function invariant generalizes several polynomial invariants of virtual knots, such as the writhe polynomial, the affine index polynomial and the zero polynomial.
