We show that a certain linear representation of the singular braid monoid on three strands is faithful. Furthermore we will give a second - group theoretically motivated - solution to the word problem in this monoid.

We linearize the Artin representation of the braid group given by (right) automorphisms of a free group providing a linear faithful representation of the braid group. This result is generalized to obtain linear representations for the coloured braid groupoid and pure braid group too. Applications to some areas of two-dimensional physics are discussed.

This note tells you how to construct a k(n)-dimensional family of (isomorphism classes of) irreducible representations of dimension n for the three string braid group B_3, where k(n) is an admissible function of your choosing; for example take k(n) = [ n/2 ] +1 as in arXiv:0803.2778 and arXiv:0803.2785.

For a natural number $n$, denote by $B_n$ the braid group on $n$ strings and by $SM_n$ the singular braid monoid on $n$ strings. $SM_n$ is one of the most important extensions of $B_n$. In [13], Y. Mikhalchishina classified all homogeneous $2$-local representations of $B_n$ for all $n \geq 3$. In this article, we extend the result of Mikhalchishina in two ways. First, we classify all homogeneous $3$-local representations of $B_n$ for all $n \geq 4$. Second, we classify all ho...

We show that Lawrence's representation and linear representations from quantum sl_2 called generic highest weight vectors detect the dual Garside length of braids in a simple and natural way. That is, by expressing a representation as a matrix over a Laurent polynomial ring using certain natural basis, the span of the variable is equal to the constant multiples of the dual Garside length.

We study representations of the loop braid group $LB_n$ from the perspective of extending representations of the braid group $B_n$. We also pursue a generalization of the braid/Hecke/Temperlely-Lieb paradigm---uniform finite dimensional quotient algebras of the loop braid group algebras.

Honors Thesis: On the faithfulness of the Burau representation at roots of unity

We study the kernel of the evaluated Burau representation through the braid element $\sigma_i \sigma_{i+1} \sigma_i$. The element is significant as a part of the standard braid relation. We establish the form of this element's image raised to the $n^{th}$ power. Interestingly, the cyclotomic polynomials arise and can be used to define the expression. The main result of this paper is that the Burau representation of the braid group of $n$ strands for $n \geq 3$ is unfaithful a...

The Burau representation enables to define many other representations of the braid group $B_n$ by the topological operation of ``cabling braids''. We show here that these representations split into copies of the Burau representation itself and of a representation of $B_n/(P_n,P_n)$. In particular, we show that there is no gain in terms of faithfulness by cabling the Burau representation.
