Littlewood-Richardson rule gives the decomposition formula for the multiplication of two Schur functions, while the decomposition formula for the multiplication of two Hall-Littlewood functions or two universal characters is also given by the combinatorial method. In this paper, using the vertex operator realizations of these symmetric functions, we construct the algebraic forms of these decomposition formulas.

Using techniques from integrable systems, we obtain a number of exact results for random partitions. In particular, we prove a simple formula for correlation functions of what we call the Schur measure on partitions (which is a far reaching generalization of the Plancherel measure, see math.CO/9905032) and also show that these correlations functions are tau-functions for the Toda lattice hierarchy. Also we give a new proof of the formula due to Bloch and the author, see alg-g...

The aim of this note is to introduce a compound basis for the space of symmetric functions. Our basis consists of products of Schur functions and $Q$-functions. The basis elements are indexed by the partitions. It is well known that the Schur functions form an orthonormal basis for our space. A natural question arises. How are these two bases connected? In this note we present some numerical results of the transition matrix for these bases. In particular we will see that the ...

We make a broad conjecture about the $k$-Schur positivity of Catalan functions, symmetric functions which generalize the (parabolic) Hall-Littlewood polynomials. We resolve the conjecture with positive combinatorial formulas in cases which address the $k$-Schur expansion of (1) Hall-Littlewood polynomials, proving the $q=0$ case of the strengthened Macdonald positivity conjecture of Lapointe, Lascoux, and Morse; (2) the product of a Schur function and a $k$-Schur function whe...

We study the asymptotic behaviour of random integer partitions under a new probability law that we introduce, the Plancherel-Hurwitz measure. This distribution, which has a natural definition in terms of Young tableaux, is a deformation of the classical Plancherel measure which appears naturally in the context of Hurwitz numbers, enumerating certain transposition factorisations in symmetric groups. We study a regime in which the number of factors in the underlying factorisa...

In 2015, the author proved combinatorially character formulas expressing sums of the (formal) dimensions of irreducible representations of symplectic groups, refining some works of Nekrasov and Okounkov, Han, King, and Westbury. In this article, we obtain generalizations of these character formulas, by using a bijection on integer partitions, namely the Littlewood decomposition, for which we prove new properties. As applications, we derive signed generating functions for subs...

For any Schur function $s_{\nu}$, the associated {\em delta operator} $\Delta'_{s_{\nu}}$ is a linear operator on the ring of symmetric functions which has the modified Macdonald polynomials as an eigenbasis. When $\nu = (1^{n-1})$ is a column of length $n-1$, the symmetric function $\Delta'_{e_{n-1}} e_n$ appears in the Shuffle Theorem of Carlsson-Mellit. More generally, when $\nu = (1^{k-1})$ is any column the polynomial $\Delta'_{e_{k-1}} e_n$ is the symmetric function sid...

We present a family of analogs of the Hall-Littlewood symmetric functions in the $Q$-function algebra. The change of basis coefficients between this family and Schur's $Q$-functions are $q$-analogs of numbers of marked shifted tableaux. These coefficients exhibit many parallel properties to the Kostka-Foulkes polynomials.

In this note we define a generalization of Hall-Littlewood symmetric functions using formal group law and give an elementary proof of the generating function formula for the generalized Hall-Littlewood symmetric functions. We also give some applications of this formula.

Macdonald processes are measures on sequences of integer partitions built using the Cauchy summation identity for Macdonald symmetric functions. These measures are a useful tool to uncover the integrability of many probabilistic systems, including the Kardar-Parisi-Zhang (KPZ) equation and a number of other models in its universality class. In this paper we develop the structural theory behind half-space variants of these models and the corresponding half-space Macdonald proc...
