The theme of this paper is to `solve' an absolutely irreducible differential module explicitly in terms of modules of lower dimension and finite extensions of the differential field $K$. Representations of semi-simple Lie algebras and differential Galois theory are the main tools. The results extend the classical work of G. Fano.

In this paper, we prove the following differential analog of the Noether normalization lemma: for every $d$-dimensional differential algebraic variety over differentially closed field of zero characteristic there exists a surjective map onto the $d$-dimensional affine space. Equivalently, for every integral differential algebra $A$ over differential field of zero characteristic there exist differentially independent $b_1, \ldots, b_d$ such that $A$ is differentially algebra...

To compute difference Groebner bases of ideals generated by linear polynomials we adopt to difference polynomial rings the involutive algorithm based on Janet-like division. The algorithm has been implemented in Maple in the form of the package LDA (Linear Difference Algebra) and we describe the main features of the package. Its applications are illustrated by generation of finite difference approximations to linear partial differential equations and by reduction of Feynman i...

For a nonlinear ordinary differential equation solved with respect to the highest order derivative and rational in the other derivatives and in the independent variable, we devise two algorithms to check if the equation can be reduced to a linear one by a point transformation of the dependent and independent variables. The first algorithm is based on a construction of the Lie point symmetry algebra and on the computation of its derived algebra. The second algorithm exploits t...

In this paper, we study unirational differential curves and the corresponding differential rational parametrizations. We first investigate basic properties of proper differential rational parametrizations for unirational differential curves. Then we show that the implicitization problem of proper linear differential rational parametric equations can be solved by means of differential resultants. Furthermore, for linear differential curves, we give an algorithm to determine wh...

In this paper, we explain how to compute the Lie algebra of the differential Galois group of a reducible linear differential system. We achieve this by showing how to transform a block-triangular linear differential system into a Kolchin-Kovacic reduced form. We combine this with other reduction results to propose a general algorithm for computing a reduced form of a general linear differential system. In particular, this provides directly the Lie algebra of the differential ...

General revision. In particular the parts concerning involutive bases over rings have been significantly changed. In addition some proofs have been improved.

A lot of information concerning solutions of linear differential equations can be computed directly from the equation. It is therefore natural to consider these equations as a data-structure, from which mathematical properties can be computed. A variety of algorithms has thus been designed in recent years that do not aim at "solving", but at computing with this representation. Many of these results are surveyed here.

Let $k$ be a differential field of characteristic zero with an algebraically closed field of constants. In this article, we provide a classification of first order differential equations over $k$ and study the algebraic dependence of solutions of a given first order differential equation. Our results generalize parts of the work of Noordman et al. (MR4378074) and complements the work of Freitag et al. (MR4506775).

This article proves the completeness of an axiomatization for differential equation invariants described by Noetherian functions. First, the differential equation axioms of differential dynamic logic are shown to be complete for reasoning about analytic invariants. Completeness crucially exploits differential ghosts, which introduce additional variables that can be chosen to evolve freely along new differential equations. Cleverly chosen differential ghosts are the proof-theo...
