Consider the focusing nonlinear Schr\"odinger equation with a potential with a single negative eigenvalue. It has solitons with negative small energy, which are asymptotically stable, and solitons with positive large energy, which are unstable. We classify the global dynamics into 9 sets of solutions in the phase space including both solitons, restricted by small mass, radial symmetry, and an energy bound slightly above the second lowest one of solitons. The classification in...

The well known effect of the linear damping on the moving nonlinear Schr\"odinger soliton (even when there is a supply of energy via the spatially homogeneous driving) is to quench its momentum to zero. Surprisingly, the zero momentum does not necessarily mean zero velocity. We show that two or more parametrically driven damped solitons can form a complex traveling with zero momentum at a nonzero constant speed. All traveling complexes we have found so far, turned out to be...

In this paper we study a class of nonlinear Schr\"odinger equations which admit families of small solitary wave solutions. We consider solutions which are small in the energy space $H^1$, and decompose them into solitary wave and dispersive wave components. The goal is to establish the asymptotic stability of the solitary wave and the asymptotic completeness of the dispersive wave. That is, we show that as $t \to \infty$, the solitary wave component converges to a fixed solit...

In the framework of non-relativistic QED, we show that the renormalized mass of the electron (after having taken into account radiative corrections) appears as the kinematic mass in its response to an external potential force. Specifically, we study the dynamics of an electron in a slowly varying external potential and with slowly varying initial conditions and prove that, for a long time, it is accurately described by an associated effective dynamics of a Schr\"odinger elect...

We show that the parametrically driven nonlinear Schroedinger equation has wide classes of travelling soliton solutions, some of which are stable. For small driving strengths nonpropogating and moving solitons co-exist while strongly forced solitons can only be stably when moving sufficiently fast.

We consider perturbations of the one-dimensional cubic Schr\"odinger equation, under the form $i \, \partial_t \psi + \partial_x^2 \psi + |\psi|^2 \psi - g( |\psi|^2 ) \psi = 0$. Under hypotheses on the function g that can be easily verified in some cases, we show that the linearized problem around a solitary wave does not have internal mode (nor resonance) and we prove the asymptotic stability of these solitary waves, for small frequencies.

The semiclassical limit of a nonlinear focusing Schr\"odinger equation in presence of nonconstant electric and magnetic potentials V,A is studied by taking as initial datum the ground state solution of an associated autonomous elliptic equation. The concentration curve of the solutions is a parameterization of the solutions of a Newton ODE involving the electric force as well as the magnetic force via the Lorenz law of electrodynamics.

In this work we intend to discuss the solitonic solutions of Einstein's field equations in vacuum by constructing the solution to N solitons and studying some aspects of it. In conclusion, it will be shown how the Kerr black hole can be interpreted as a soliton solution in the case of axial symmetry.

Roughly speaking a solitary wave is a solution of a field equation whose energy travels as a localized packet and which preserves this localization in time. A soliton is a solitary wave which exhibits some strong form of stability so that it has a particle-like behavior. In this paper, we prove a general, abstract theorem (Theorem 26) which allows to prove the ex istence of a class of solitons. Such solitons are suitable minimizers of a constrained functional and they are cal...

We consider the problem of the soliton propagation, in a slowly varying medium, for a generalized, variable-coefficients nonlinear Schr\"odinger equation. We prove existence and uniqueness of new soliton-like solutions for a large class of slowly varying media. Moreover, we describe for all time the behavior of this new generalized soliton solution.
