In this paper we study some aspects of integrable magnetic systems on the two-torus. On the one hand, we construct the first non-trivial examples with the property that all magnetic geodesics with unit speed are closed. On the other hand, we show that those integrable magnetic systems admitting a global surface of section satisfy a sharp systolic inequality.

We consider exact magnetic flows on closed orientable surfaces. We show that for almost every energy $\kappa$ below Ma\~n\'e's critical value of the universal covering there are always at least three distinct closed magnetic geodesics with energy $\kappa$. If in addition the energy level is assumed to be non-degenerate we prove existence of infinitely many closed magnetic geodesics.

It is an interesting question whether a given equation of motion has a periodic solution or not, and in the positive case to describe them. We investigate periodic magnetic curves in elliptic Sasakian space forms and we obtain a quantization principle for periodic magnetic flowlines on Berger spheres. We give a criterion for periodicity of magnetic curves on the unit sphere ${\mathbb{S}}^3$.

In this paper, we define a class of new geometric flows on a complete Riemannian manifold. The new flow is related to the generalized (third order) Landau-Lifishitz equation. On the other hand it could be thought of a special case of the Schr\"odinger-Airy flow when the target manifold is a K\"ahler manifold with constant holomorphic sectional curvature. We show the local existence of the new flow on a complete Riemannian manifold with some assumptions on Ricci tensor. Moreov...

In this paper we deal with the existence, regularity and Beltrami field property of magnetic energy minimisers under a helicity constraint. We in particular tackle the problem of characterising local as well as global minimisers of the given minimisation problem. Further we generalise Arnold's results concerning the problem of finding the minimum magnetic energy in an orbit of the group of volume-preserving diffeomorphisms to the setting of abstract manifolds with boundary.

In this paper we study the existence and multiplicity of periodic orbits of exact magnetic flows with energy levels above the Ma\~{n}\'{e} critical value of the universal cover on a non-compact manifold from the viewpoint of Morse theory.

The problem of description of superintegrable systems (i.e., systems with closed trajectories in a certain domain) in the class of rotationally symmetric natural mechanical systems goes back to Bertrand and Darboux. We describe all superintegrable (in a domain of slow motions) systems in the class of rotationally symmetric magnetic geodesic flows. We show that all sufficiently slow motions in a central magnetic field on a two-dimensional manifold of revolution are periodic if...

In this paper we consider oscillating non-exact magnetic fields on surfaces with genus at least two and show that for almost every energy level $k$ below a certain value $\tau_+^*(g,\sigma)$ less than or equal to the "Ma\~n\'e critical value of the universal cover" there are infinitely many closed magnetic geodesics with energy $k$.

These notes were prepared in occasion of a mini-course given by the author at the "CIMPA Research School - Hamiltonian and Lagrangian Dynamics" (10-19 March 2015 - Salto, Uruguay). The talks were meant as an introduction to the problem of finding periodic orbits of prescribed energy for autonomous Tonelli Lagrangian systems on the twisted cotangent bundle of a closed manifold. In the first part of the lecture notes, we put together in a general theorem old and new results on ...

This paper is the third of a series on Hamiltonian stationary Lagrangian surfaces. We present here the most general theory, valid for any Hermitian symmetric target space. Using well-chosen moving frame formalism, we show that the equations are equivalent to an integrable system, generalizing the C^2 subcase analyzed in the first article (arXiv:math.DG/0009202). This system shares many features with the harmonic map equation of surfaces into symmetric spaces, allowing us to d...
