Riemann theta functions are used to construct one-periodic and two-periodic wave solutions to a class of (2+1)-dimensional Hirota bilinear equations. The basis for the involved solution analysis is the Hirota bilinear formulation, and the particular dependence of the equations on independent variables guarantees the existence of one-periodic and two-periodic wave solutions involving an arbitrary purely imaginary Riemann matrix. The resulting theory is applied to two nonlinear...

The (2+1)-dimensional [(2+1)d] Fokas system is a natural and simple extension of the nonlinear Schrodinger equation. (see eq. (2) in A. S. Fokas, Inverse Probl. 10 (1994) L19-L22). In this letter, we introduce its PT -symmetric version, which is called the (2 + 1)d nonlocal Fokas system. The N-soliton solutions for this system are obtained by using the Hirota bilinear method whereas the semi-rational solutions are generated by taking the long-wave limit of a part of exponenti...

We establish a bilinear framework for elliptic soliton solutions which are composed by the Lam\'e-type plane wave factors. $\tau$ functions in Hirota's form are derived and vertex operators that generate such $\tau$ functions are presented. Bilinear identities are constructed and an algorithm to calculate residues and bilinear equations is formulated. These are investigated in detail for the KdV equation and sketched for the KP hierarchy. Degenerations by the periods of ellip...

We study integrability properties of the non-chiral intermediate long wave (ncILW) equation with periodic boundary conditions. The ncILW equation was recently introduced by the authors as a parity-invariant relative of the intermediate long wave equation. For this new equation we: (a) derive a Lax pair, (b) derive a Hirota bilinear form, (c) use the Hirota method to construct the periodic multi-soliton solutions, (d) derive a B\"{a}cklund transformation, (e) use the B\"{a}ckl...

The Hirota equation is a higher order extension of the nonlinear Schroedinger equation by incorporating third order dispersion and one form of self steepening effect. New periodic waves for the discrete Hirota equation are given in terms of elliptic functions. The continuum limit converges to the analogous result for the continuous Hirota equation, while the long wave limit of these discrete periodic patterns reproduces the known result of the integrable Ablowitz-Ladik system...

Inspired by the works of Ablowitz, Mussliman and Fokas, a partial reverse space-time nonlocal Mel'nikov equation is introduced. This equation provides two dimensional analogues of the nonlocal Schrodinger-Boussinesq equation. By employing the Hirota's bilinear method, soliton, breathers and mixed solutions consisting of breathers and periodic line waves are obtained. Further, taking a long wave limit of these obtained soliton solutions, rational and semi-rational solutions of...

In this paper, we present a systematic procedure to derive discrete analogues of integrable PDEs via Hirota's bilinear method. This approach is mainly based on the compatibility between an integrable system and its B\"acklund transformation. We apply this procedure to several equations, including the extended Korteweg-de-Vries (KdV) equation, the extended Kadomtsev-Petviashvili (KP) equation, the extended Boussinesq equation, the extended Sawada-Kotera (SK) equation and the e...

In this work, we study the asymptotic behaviors and dynamics of degenerate and mixed solitons for the coupled Hirota system with strong coherent coupling effects in the isotropic nonlinear medium. Using the binary Darboux transformation, we derive the solutions to represent the degenerate solitons with two eigenvalues that are conjugate to each other. We obtain three types of degenerate solitons and provide their asymptotic expressions. Notably, these degenerate solitons exhi...

We prove the existence of small amplitude periodic solutions, with strongly irrational frequency $ \om $ close to one, for completely resonant nonlinear wave equations. We provide multiplicity results for both monotone and nonmonotone nonlinearities. For $ \om $ close to one we prove the existence of a large number $ N_\om $ of $ 2 \pi \slash \om $-periodic in time solutions $ u_1, ..., u_n, ..., u_N $: $ N_\om \to + \infty $ as $ \om \to 1 $. The minimal period of the $n$-th...

This paper is concerned with the periodic (in time) solutions to an one-dimensional semilinear wave equation with $x$-dependent coefficient. Such a model arises from the forced vibrations of a nonhomogeneous string and propagation of seismic waves in nonisotropic media. By combining variational methods with saddle point reduction technique, we obtain the existence of at least three periodic solutions whenever the period is a rational multiple of the length of the spatial inte...
