The decay $\rho^{0}\to \pi^{0}\pi^{0}\gamma$ and the role of $\sigma$-meson

We reanalyse the gamma-gamma scattering data and conclude that in the mass region below 1 GeV the cross section for gamma-gamma to pi^0-pi^0 can be largely explained by the one pion exchange process with pi-pi rescattering. The radiative width of the sigma is estimated and a model dependent separation into contributions from direct gamma-gamma decay and decay through rescattering is obtained. We investigate the possibility that the process of $\rho^{0}$-meson photoproduction on proton, $\gamma+p\to p+\rho^{0}$, in the near threshold region $E_{\gamma}< 2$ GeV, can be considered in the framework of model with $\pi$-, $\sigma$- and N-exchanges. The decay modes $\rho^0 \to 2\pi^+ 2\pi^-$ and $\rho^0 \to 2\pi^0 \pi^+ \pi^-$ are considered in the framework of the low energy effective chiral Lagrangian. The obtained values of the decay widths $\Gamma(\rho^0\to 2 \pi^+ 2 \pi^-)=$ $(16 \pm 1){\rm keV}$ and $\Gamma(\rho^0\to 2 \pi^0 \pi^+ \pi^-)= (6.0 \pm 0.2)$keV do not contradict the existing upper limits and seem to be big enough for the corresponding processes to be observed in future high luminosity experiments.

We evaluate the photon spectra from the reaction $\pi\rho\ra \pi\gamma$ for the exchange of $\pi$, $\rho$, $\omega$, $\phi$ and $a_1$ as intermediary mesons. It is found that the contributions from the intermediary $a_1$ is more than any other meson exchange processes up to photon energies 2.5 GeV.

The e+e- -> pi0 pi0 gamma process was studied in the SND experiment at VEPP-2M e+e- collider in the energy region 0.60-0.97 GeV. From the analysis of the energy dependence of measured cross section the branching ratios B(omega -> pi0 pi0 gamma)= (6.6 +1.4-0.8(stat) +-0.6(syst))x10^-5 and B(rho -> pi0 pi0 gamma)=(4.1 +1.0-0.9(stat) +-0.3(syst))x10^-5 were obtained.

Studies of the reaction $\gamma\pi\to\pi\pi$, in the context of the ongoing Primakoff program of the COMPASS experiment at CERN, give access to the radiative couplings of the $\rho(770)$ and $\rho_3(1690)$ resonances.
