Using a shell model which is capable of describing the spectra of upper $g_{9/2}$-shell nuclei close to the $N=Z$ line, we study the structure of two isomeric states $7^{+}$ and $21^{+}$ in the odd-odd $N=Z$ nucleus $^{94}$Ag. It is found that both isomeric states exhibit a large collectivity. The $7^{+}$ state is oblately deformed, and is suggested to be a shape isomer in nature. The $21^{+}$ state becomes isomeric because of level inversion of the $19^{+}$ and $21^{+}$ stat...

The quadrupole collectivity of low-lying states and the anomalous behavior of the $0^+_2$ and $2^+_3$ levels in $^{72}$Ge are investigated via projectile multi-step Coulomb excitation with GRETINA and CHICO-2. A total of forty six $E2$ and $M1$ matrix elements connecting fourteen low-lying levels were determined using the least-squares search code, gosia. Evidence for triaxiality and shape coexistence, based on the model-independent shape invariants deduced from the Kumar-Cli...

The excited states of $N=44$ $^{74}$Zn were investigated via $\gamma$-ray spectroscopy following $^{74}$Cu $\beta$ decay. By exploiting $\gamma$-$\gamma$ angular correlation analysis, the $2_2^+$, $3_1^+$, $0_2^+$ and $2_3^+$ states in $^{74}$Zn were firmly established. The $\gamma$-ray branching and $E2/M1$ mixing ratios for transitions de-exciting the $2_2^+$, $3_1^+$ and $2_3^+$ states were measured, allowing for the extraction of relative $B(E2)$ values. In particular, th...

The Gamow-Teller strength distribution covering the entire $\beta$-decay window, up to 10.312(4) MeV, of $^{80g+m}$Ga was measured for the first time in photo-fission of UC$_x$ induced by 50 MeV electron beam. The new data show significant enhancement in the high-energy region with a jump-structure. Simultaneously, the $\gamma$ de-exciting behavior of $\beta$-populated states presents a competition between de-excitation to 2$_1^+$ [$\beta_2$ = 0.155(9)] and to 2$_2^+$ [$\beta...

The very simple product of the number of particles by the number of holes appearing in the expression of the reduced B(E2:0+->2+) transition probability of even-even nuclei obtained from the extension of the seniority scheme is used to analyze the experimental B(E2:0+->2+) values in the Cr up to Se isotopes. A new interpretation is given to the B(E2:0+->2+) measured in 68Ni and 70Zn. The B(E2:0+->2+) features of the even-even nuclei between Ni and Se with neutron number rangi...

Excited states in 40Si have been established by detecting gamma-rays coincident with inelastic scattering and nucleon removal reactions on a liquid hydrogen target. The low excitation energy, 986(5) keV, of the 2+[1] state provides evidence of a weakening in the N=28 shell closure in a neutron-rich nucleus devoid of deformation-driving proton collectivity.

We demonstrate the feasibility of realistic Shell-Model Monte Carlo (SMMC) calculations spanning multiple major shells, using a realistic interaction whose bad saturation and shell properties have been corrected by a newly developed general prescription. Particular attention is paid to the approximate restoration of translational invariance. The model space consists of the full sd-pf shells. We include in the study some well-known T=0 nuclei and several unstable neutron-rich ...

The $10^+$ and $27/2^-$ isomers of the $Z>64$, $N=82$ nuclei are investigated in the shell model framework. We derive an extended seniority reduction formula for the relevant $E2$ transition strengths. Based on the extended formula, as well as on the approximate degeneracy among the $0h_{11/2}$, $2s_{1/2}$ and $1d_{3/2}$ orbits, we argue that the $B(E2)$ data require the $^{146}$Gd core excitation. The energy levels of both parities and the $B(E2)$ values are simultaneously r...

The "Island of Inversion" for neutron-rich nuclei in the vicinity of N=20 has become the testing ground par excellence for our understanding and modelling of shell evolution with isospin. In this context, the structure of the transitional nucleus 29Mg is critical. The first quantitative measurements of the single particle structure of 29Mg are reported, using data from the d(28Mg,p gamma)29Mg reaction. Two key states carrying significant ell=3 (f-wave) strength were identifie...

The systematics of g factor of first excited 2^+ state vs neutron number N is studied by the projected shell model. The study covers the even-even nuclei of all isotopic chains from Gd to Pt. g factors are calculated by using the many-body wavefunctions that reproduces well the energy levels and B(E2)'s of the ground-state bands. For Gd to W isotopes the characteristic feature of the g factor data along an isotopic chain is described by the present model. Deficiency of the mo...
