We report the observation of two additional sub-natural line width quantum interference in the $D_2$ manifold of $^{39}K$ vapor, in addition to the usual single Electromagnetically induced transparency peak. The other two features appear exclusively because $^{39}K$ ground hyperfine splitting is smaller than the Doppler broadened absorption profile. This allows probe and control beams to swap their transition pathways. The control beam detuning captures the nature of the cohe...

In this paper, we describe two complementary non-linear spectroscopy methods which both allow to achieve Doppler-free spectra of atomic gases. First, saturated absorption spectroscopy is used to investigate the structure of the $5{\rm S}_{1/2}\to 5{\rm P}_{3/2}$ transition in rubidium. Using a slightly modified experimental setup, Doppler-free two-photon absorption spectroscopy is then performed on the $5{\rm S}_{1/2}\to 5{\rm D}_{5/2}$ transition in rubidium, leading to accu...

We report a precise measurement of hyperfine constants in the $\rm{D_1} $ line ($ \rm {5\,P_{1/2}} $ state) of the two stable isotopes of Rb. The motivation for the work is to try and resolve discrepant values that exists in the literature. We use a technique that is different from other methods---one where the laser is not locked to a particular transition but scanned around it. This is advantageous because it overcomes frequency shifts due to servo-loop errors and other sou...

An optical frequency comb generated with an electro-optic phase modulator and a chirped radiofrequency waveform is used to perform saturation and pump-probe spectroscopy on the $D_1$ and $D_2$ transitions of atomic potassium. With a comb tooth spacing of 200 kHz and an optical bandwidth of 2 GHz the hyperfine transitions can be simultaneously observed. Interferograms are recorded in as little as 5 $\mu$s (a timescale corresponding to the inverse of the comb tooth spacing). Im...

We propose the new method of essential decrease of transit-time broadening of Doppler-free absorption resonances on transitions between long-lived quantum levels of atoms (or molecules) of a rarefied gas medium. This method is based on preliminary optical pumping of the ground term of atoms (molecules) by additional radiation which is spatially separated from the recording light beam. The proposed method may be applied in atomic (molecular) spectroscopy of ultra high resoluti...

We perform saturated absorption spectroscopy on the D$\_2$ line for room temperature rubidium atoms immersed in magnetic fields within the 0.05-0.13 T range. At those medium-high field values the hyperfine structure in the excited state is broken by the Zeeman effect, while in the ground state hyperfine structure and Zeeman shifts are comparable. The observed spectra are composed by a large number of absorption lines. We identify them as saturated absorptions on two-level sys...

We demonstrate a new technique for measuring the absolute frequencies of atomic transitions. The technique uses a ring-cavity resonator whose length is calibrated using a reference laser locked to the D_2 line in {87}Rb. The frequency of this line is known to be 384 230 484.468(10) MHz. Using a second laser locked to the D_1 line of Rb, we measure the frequencies of various hyperfine transitions in the D_1 and D_2 lines with a precision of 30 kHz. We obtain the following valu...

The temporal evolution of electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) and absorption (EIA) coherence resonances in pump-probe spectroscopy of degenerate two-level atomic transition is studied for light intensities below saturation. Analytical expression for the transient absorption spectra are given for simple model systems and a model for the calculation of the time dependent response of realistic atomic transitions, where the Zeeman degeneracy is fully accounted for, is ...

We demonstrate a technique for precisely measuring hyperfine intervals in alkali atoms. The atoms form a three-level $\Lambda$ system in the presence of a strong control laser and a weak probe laser. The dressed states created by the control laser show significant linewidth reduction. We have developed a technique for Doppler-free spectroscopy that enables the separation between the dressed states to be measured with high accuracy even in room-temperature atoms. The states go...

The Saturated Absorption Spectroscopy (SAS) was performed to measure the hyperfine energy splittings of rubidium 5P$_{1/2}$ excited state using a homemade external-cavity diode laser (ECDL) operating at 795 nm. Any nonlinearities associated with ECDL scans were removed by using a low-expansion confocal Fabry-Perot cavity and hence created a linearized frequency axis for the spectra collected in a fully automated fashion. We report our measurements for the magnetic dipole coup...
