We investigate Gorenstein toric Fano varieties by combinatorial methods using the notion of a reflexive polytope which appeared in connection to mirror symmetry. The paper contains generalisations of tools and previously known results for nonsingular toric Fano varieties. As applications we obtain new classification results, bounds of invariants and formulate conjectures concerning combinatorial and geometrical properties of reflexive polytopes.

For any given dimension $d$, all reflexive $d$-polytopes can be found (in principle) as subpolytopes of a number of maximal polyhedra that are defined in terms of $(d+1)$-tuples of integers (weights), or combinations of $k$-tuples of weights with $k<d+1$. We present the results of a complete classification of sextuples of weights pertaining to the construction of all reflexive polytopes in five dimensions. We find 322 383 760 930 such weight systems. 185 269 499 015 of them g...

We construct a surprisingly large class of new Calabi-Yau 3-folds $X$ with small Picard numbers and propose a construction of their mirrors $X^*$ using smoothings of toric hypersurfaces with conifold singularities. These new examples are related to the previously known ones via conifold transitions. Our results generalize the mirror construction for Calabi-Yau complete intersections in Grassmannians and flag manifolds via toric degenerations. There exist exactly 198849 reflex...

Using Cayley trick, we define the notions of mixed toric residues and mixed Hessians associated with $r$ Laurent polynomials $f_1,...,f_r$.We conjecture that the values of mixed toric residues on the mixed Hessians are determined by mixed volumes of the Newton polytopes of $f_1,...,f_r$. Using mixed toric residues, we generalize our Toric Residue Mirror Conjecture to the case of Calabi-Yau complete intersections in Gorenstein toric Fano varieties obtained from nef-partitions ...

The problem of counting points is revisited from the perspective of reflexive 4-dimensional polytopes. As an application, the Hilbert series of the 473,800,776 reflexive polytopes (equivalently, their Calabi-Yau hypersurfaces) are computed.

We derive the combinatorial representations of Picard group and deformation space of anti-canonical hypersurfaces of a toric variety using techniques in toric geometry. The mirror cohomology correspondence in the context of mirror symmetry is established for a pair of Calabi-Yau (CY) ${\sf n}$-spaces in toric varieties defined by reflexive polytopes for an arbitrary dimension ${\sf n}$. We further identify the Kahler cone of the toric variety and degeneration cone of CY hyper...

We generalize the toric residue mirror conjecture of Batyrev and Materov to not necessarily reflexive polytopes. Using this generalization we prove the toric residue mirror conjecture for Calabi-Yau complete intersections in Gorenstein toric Fano varieties.

We explain how to form a novel dataset of simply connected Calabi-Yau threefolds via the Gross-Siebert algorithm. We expect these to degenerate to Calabi-Yau toric hypersurfaces with certain Gorenstein (not necessarily isolated) singularities. In particular, we explain how to `smooth the boundary' of a class of $4$-dimensional reflexive polytopes to obtain a polarised tropical manifolds. We compute topological invariants of a compactified torus fibration over each such tropic...

We consider multi-polytopes to describe non-Fano toric varieties and their associated anticanonical Calabi-Yau hypersurfaces. From the periods of the mirror manifold the $\widehat{\Gamma}$-conjecture is shown to hold for examples of Calabi-Yau hypersurfaces in non-Fano ambient spaces, extending earlier work by Abouzaid et al by employing a generalized Duistermaat-Heckman measure.

We extend the construction of Calabi-Yau manifolds to hypersurfaces in non-Fano toric varieties, requiring the use of certain Laurent defining polynomials, and explore the phases of the corresponding gauged linear sigma models. The associated non-reflexive and non-convex polytopes provide a generalization of Batyrev's original work, allowing us to construct novel pairs of mirror models. We showcase our proposal for this generalization by examining Calabi-Yau hypersurfaces in ...
