We combine the results from several HST investigations of the central structure of early-type galaxies to generate a large sample of parameterized surface photometry. The studies included were those that used the "Nuker law" to characterize the inner light distributions of the galaxies. The sample comprises WFPC1 and WFPC2 V band observations published earlier by our group, R band WFPC2 photometry of Rest et al., NICMOS H band photometry by Ravindranath et al. and Quillen et ...

The morphological, spectroscopic and kinematical properties of the warm interstellar medium (wim) in early-type galaxies (ETGs) hold key observational constraints to nuclear activity and the buildup history of these massive, quiescent systems. High-quality integral field spectroscopy (IFS) data with a wide spectral and spatial coverage, such as those from the CALIFA survey, offer an unprecedented opportunity for advancing our understanding of the wim in ETGs. This article cen...

(Abbreviated) We present an imaging survey of 37 nearby galaxies observed with HST/WFPC2 in the mid-UV F300W filter and in F814W. 11 galaxies were also imaged in F255W. These galaxies were selected to be detectable with WFPC2 in one orbit, and cover a wide range of Hubble types and inclinations. The mid-UV spans the gap between our groundbased optical/NIR images and far-UV images available from the Astro/UIT missions. Our first qualitative results are: (1) Early-type galaxi...

We present a near infrared spectroscopic atlas of nearby, bright early-type galaxies with radio emission, containing 163 galaxies observed by the Palomar 200" TripleSpec instrument, measuring the emission line fluxes for H, He, [Fe II] and H$_2$ and determined the nuclear excitation mechanisms. By stacking spectra, we deduced the H$_2$ excitation temperature ($1957\pm182$ K) and dominant excitation mechanism (thermal and shock heating combined) from the $\textit{K}$-band emis...

We present a 1.4 GHz Karl G. Jansky Very Large Array (VLA) study of a sample of early-type galaxies (ETGs) from the volume- and magnitude-limited ATLAS-3D survey. The radio morphologies of these ETGs at a resolution of 5" are diverse and include sources that are compact on sub-kpc scales, resolved structures similar to those seen in star-forming spiral galaxies, and kpc-scale radio jets/lobes associated with active nuclei. We compare the 1.4 GHz, molecular gas, and infrared (...

Four IRAS-detected early type galaxies were observed with ISO. With the exception of the 15 micron image of NGC1052, the mid-IR emission from NGC1052, NGC1155, NGC5866 and NGC6958 at 4.5, 7 and 15 microns show extended emission. Mid-IR emission from NGC1052, NGC1155, and NGC6958 follows a de Vaucouleurs profile. The ratio of 15/7 micron flux decreases with radius in these galaxies, approaching the values empirically observed for purely stellar systems. In NGC5866, the 7 and 1...

We extend the study of the radio emission in early-type galaxies (ETGs) in the nearby Universe (recession velocity <7,500 km/s) as seen by the 150 MHz Low-Frequency ARray (LOFAR) observations and extend the sample from giant ETGs to massive (~6x10^10 - 3x10^11 solar masses) ETGs (mETGS) with -25 < MK < -23.5. Images from the second data release of the LOFAR Two-metre Sky Survey were available for 432 mETGs, 48% of which are detected above a typical luminosity of ~3x10^20 W/Hz...

We construct near-infrared to visible broad band NICMOS/WFPC color maps for 4 early-type Seyfert galaxies with S-shaped or one-sided ionization cones. We find that dust lanes are near or connected to many of the features seen in the [OIII] and H$\alpha$+[NII] line emission maps. This suggests that much of the structure of line emission in these ionization cones is determined by the distribution of ambient dense galactic gas. Spiral arms, dust lanes caused by bars, or gaseous ...

With the aim of building a data-set of spectral properties of well studied early-type galaxies showing emission lines, we present intermediate resolution spectra of 50 galaxies in the nearby Universe. The sample, which covers several of the E and S0 morphological sub-classes, is biased toward objects that might be expected to have ongoing and recent star formation, at least in small amounts, because of the presence of the emission lines. The emission are expected to come from...

Many massive early-type galaxies host central radio sources and hot X-ray atmospheres indicating the presence of radio-mechanical active galactic nucleus (AGN) feedback. The duty cycle and detailed physics of the radio-mode AGN feedback is still a matter of debate. To address these questions, we present 1-2 GHz Karl G. Jansky Very Large Array (VLA) radio observations of a sample of the 42 nearest optically and X-ray brightest early-type galaxies. We detect radio emission in 4...
