We present accurate numerical estimates for the correlation amplitudes of leading and main subleading terms of the two- and four-spin correlation functions in the one-dimensional spin-1/2 XXZ model under a magnetic field. These data are obtained by fitting the correlation functions, computed numerically with the density-matrix renormalization-group method, to the corresponding correlation functions in the low-energy effective theory. For this purpose we have developed the Abelian bosonization approach to the spin chain under the open boundary conditions. We use the numerical data of the correlation amplitudes to quantitatively estimate spin gaps induced by a transverse staggered field and by exchange anisotropy.

The density-matrix renormalization-group technique is used to calculate the spin correlation functions <S^x_jS^x_k> and <S^z_jS^z_k> of the one-dimensional S=1/2 XXZ model in the gapless regime. The numerical results for open chains of 200 spins are analyzed by comparing them with correlation functions calculated from a low-energy field theory. This gives precise estimates of the amplitudes of the correlation functions in the thermodynamic limit. The exact amplitude recently ...

We have numerically studied the thermodynamic properties of the spin 1/2 XXZ chain in the presence of a transverse (non commuting) magnetic field. The thermal, field dependence of specific heat and correlation functions for chains up to 20 sites have been calculated. The area where the specific heat decays exponentially is considered as a measure of the energy gap. We have also obtained the exchange interaction between chains in a bulk material using the random phase approxim...

By exploiting density-matrix renormalization group techniques, we investigate the spin dynamics of a spin-1/2 one-dimensional J1-J2 XXZ model with competing ferromagnetic J1 and antiferromagnetic J2 exchange couplings under applied magnetic fields. Numerical results of spin excitation spectra show that in the field-induced spin quadrupole regime, the longitudinal component has a gapless mode and the transverse component has a gapped mode irrespective of the exchange anisotrop...

Dynamic xx spin pair correlation functions for the isotropic spin-1/2 XY chain are calculated numerically for long open chains in the presence of a transverse magnetic field at finite temperature. As an application we discuss the temperature dependence of the spin-spin relaxation time in PrCl_3.

We consider the easy-plane anisotropic spin-1/2 Heisenberg chain in combined uniform longitudinal and transverse staggered magnetic fields. The low-energy limit of his model is described by the sine-Gordon quantum field theory. Using methods of integrable quantum field theory we determine the various components of the dynamical structure factor. To do so, we derive explicit expressions for all matrix elements of the low-energy projections of the spin operators involving at mo...

Coupling constants for the most relevant terms in the low energy effective Hamiltonian of the XXZ spin chain are derived. Using this result we study the low energy (low temperature, weak magnetic field) thermodynamics, finite size effects and subleading long distance asymptotics of correlation functions.

We derive compact multiple integral formulas for several physical spin correlation functions in the semi-infinite XXZ chain with a longitudinal boundary magnetic field. Our formulas follow from several effective re-summations of the multiple integral representation for the elementary blocks obtained in our previous article (I). In the free fermion point we compute the local magnetization as well as the density of energy profiles. These quantities, in addition to their bulk be...

We derive a master equation for the dynamical spin-spin correlation functions of the XXZ spin-1/2 Heisenberg finite chain in an external magnetic field. In the thermodynamic limit, we obtain their multiple integral representation.

The experimental realization of various spin ladder systems has prompted their detailed theoretical investigations. Here we study the evolution of ground state magnetization with an external magnetic field for two different antiferromagnetic systems: a three-legged spin-1/2 ladder, and a two-legged spin-1/2 ladder with an additional diagonal interaction. The finite system density-matrix renormalization group method is employed for numerical studies of the three-chain system, ...

Magnetic field effects on the one-dimensional frustrated ferromagnetic chain are studied by means of effective field theory approaches in combination with numerical calculations utilizing Lanczos diagonalization and the density matrix renormalization group method. The nature of the ground state is shown to change from a spin-density-wave region to a nematic-like one upon approaching the saturation magnetization. The excitation spectrum is analyzed and the behavior of the sing...
